Audeze iSINE10 in-Ear | Semi-Open Headphone
- The sound is Excellent, no doubt about that. The problem is that even after using them for short periods of time, my ear canals are sore for 1-2 days afterwards. Consequently I\'m not dying to put them in my ears and subject myself to the long lasting pain. Yes, I tried the Surefire ear locks and all the different sizes of the latex tips. Even the smallest tip size I could find from my prior ear buds (which never gave me pain) didn\'t help reduce the pain. So I wanted to return them and looked up the info today and found to my surprise that I apparently clicked the wrong button when I ordered them. I *thought* I was ordering from Amazon but no it was Adorama Camera and their return policy is only 14 days from the time you buy them - which ended - yesterday. Awesome. And you have to pay to ship them back. So I\'m SOL and will have to sell them used instead. Look for them on Audiogon and Craigslist Denver. I\'ll make you such a deal!UPDATE: 7-20-2017. Ok so I was too lazy to advertise them for sale and have been using them sporadically at home and work and lo and behold I found that inserting them very gently into my ears makes all the difference. There\'s still a teeny tiny bit of soreness afterwards but no headaches or anything like that. This may seem like common sense but don\'t jam them into your eyes to get a perfect seal and you\'ll be much much happier with these. Updating my review from 2 stars to 4 stars. In terms of driving them you don\'t need anything special. I use them straight out of my Creative Zen Nano listing to mp3\'s when walking and hiking and they sound excellent. I also use a Fulla Schitt USB DAC and a Schitt Modi for computer output with FLAC files and streaming audio and both DAC\'s pair very well with the iSINE\'s. As with all hi-end audio, the better the source the better the output will be.I strongly suggest leaving them outside of your ears when turning sources and amps on because if they are fully in your ear canals when you power up and you forgot you left the volume turned all the way up from watching Netflix last night ...it can be most unpleasant.Update: 8-2017; The 3-d sound presentation inside my head is exceptional. Your skull becomes the sound stage which sounds weird but turns out to be very pleasant, especially for acoustic and voice. It\'s like the performers are singing and performing just for you, which sounds cliche but I can\'t think of any other way to describe it - intimate I guess. These are best for a quiet listening experience where there isn\'t much background noise. Yes you can wear them on a bus, train, plane but they won\'t shine unless you\'re in a quieter environment.
- I\'ve been listening to these for the last couple of hours using audiophile tracks, few of my favorite songs that I know really well. These earphones are next level. I highly recommend them. Yes, they are a pain to put on, but I\'m more than glad to pay that small price for stellar sound quality. Highly recommend them. Audeze should come up with a more robust way of putting these on. As for sounds, haven\'t heard anything better.
- Where to start... First off, this thing may be the best sounding on/in ear in the price range. So why didn\'t I keep it?1. ComfortThere are two options for mounting the speaker on your ear: an ear clip that hangs over your ear like sunglasses, and rubber pieces that fit inside your ear (not in the canal, but the actual ear). While your brain knows it won\'t fall, your heart never feels safe. It\'s an uncanny valley of fit.2. SoundActually, sound, packaging, aesthetics, and price were actually positives. Here\'s why sound falls a tad short. The Cipher onboard DAC/DSP is necessary for its use. Sure, you can plug these into your headphone port, but the lightning inline DAC/DSP actually has an automatic, built in frequency response correction, with a Harman target response. This also means you can\'t charge your phone while listening to these headphones. On the other hand, it\'s not like some 3.5mm jacks, it\'ll fit despite my heavy duty phone case. The Harman response is a neat idea, but I believe the iSine10 falls short. I find it has holes in the sound, holes that make it an uncanny valley of sound. Despite the phenomenally low distortion, clarity, and open back \"air\", significant holes in its frequency response render vocals unusual sounding, that are only partially remedied by pushing the volume up.That being said, give Disney classics, \"A Whole New World\' or \"Reflection\" a listen, and you\'ll get goosebumps. I don\'t get goosebumps like that with other \'phones. Oh, and the bass response of the iSine10 is ridiculous. Sub bass for days... and nights. if they can solve the fit/comfort issues, and frequency response to where you can use the 3.5mm jack, I\'m sold. Until then, It\'s bested by the SE846 (but is that really fair?). Not all is lost, though. As this was my first pair of planar magnetic \'phones, I\'m now very interested in Audeze\'s full size cans. I have high hopes. The SE846\'s were eventually bested by the Etymotic ER4XR, which were bested by their neutral sister the ER4SR. The ER4SR + Chord Mojo + Tidal is my current setup. I think it\'d cost a lot more to get anything better than this. It\'s so close to perfect that it\'s not worth tinkering with anymore.
