Sennheiser HD 449 Headphones Black (Discontinued by Manufacturer)
- These closed back cans are great. I wanted a full sized pair of headphones of closed back design and I\'ve had great experiences with Sennheiser in the past so I have the HD-449\'s a try.Playing through my iPhone 6s Plus using an Onkyo player app they are a real joy to listen to my music. Without a headphone amp the volume levels are a bit low but quality is just fine. I currently have several phones and have had 8 in the past from Etymotic ER-4S\'s to HD 600\'s. A small tube headphone amp drives these amazingly loud and musically as good as the 600\'s from my memory. Im sure if I had them side by side In use I\'d relearn just why the 600\'s are so well loved but they\'re 3-4x the price! A great indication of quality headphones is forgetting about them and just enjoying the tunes you\'re listening to. These do exactly that! I feel that rock, blues, jazz, classical and electronic music are the best genres for these phones. Bass addicts will be looking for more, pop, hip hop and strong percussive music is better for other phones. My Momentum iem are much better here, especially since I paid price, also on Amazon, the same for them and they have much better bass as typical for in-ear phones.Being closed back cans I expected a bit more background isolation but I think my expectations are too high sign I often use iem that exceed almost any over or around ear headphones. Having said that they cut down plenty of destructive sounds so less volume is needed. I\'ve been playing with small, portable headphone amps to use on the fly with my iPhone and these greatly benefit from almost any amp. Not much juice is needed but the added punch really helps the cans sound their best. Bass is strong but not over bearing, mods are clear and crisp and a touch dry, and the highs are extended and a touch dry but not bothersome.Negatives: not many and most nitpicky, but here goes1. Cosmetics - not a fan of the silver sides. I used a black sharpie to cover it up.2. Cord isn\'t replaceable and the 3.5mm connector is straight rather than angled. Important point for use on portables.3. Non folding - many current designs across several brands including Sennheiser are.4. Not very sturdy feeling though plastic is of high quality. Frames creak a little bit when you handle them.Positives: lots!1. Comfortable, headband has just enough pressure to stay on my head but not enough to cause discomfort while I wear my eye glasses. I really like the padding quality around the ears and the top of the headband does a good job of keeping phones planted on my head.2. Single sided cord doesn\'t transmit much noise nor is it overly stiff and is appropriately long. And it comes with a quality extension if you need more reach for home component applications rather than portable ones.3. Sound. These cans are smooth as silk, detailed and expansive. Lows are solid, though not especially authoritative, but mid bass is punchy. Highs are soft and not overly bright, a touch veiled and I think perfect for digital and portable mediums.4. Price is appropriate, value is high.
- If you are looking for a set of headphones that deliver great sound without giving you a sore or stiff neck, consider the powerful Sennheiser HD 449 stereo headphones.-------------------------------------PERFORMANCE : 9/10-------------------------------------Sound performance in headphones is measured by the range of treble, bass and mid sounds the headset delivers. This range is commonly known as frequency response. The audible frequency range humans naturally hear is 20 to 20,000Hz, but the Sennheiser HD 449\'s frequency response is 16-24kHZ, giving you a little extra clarity to add to your music experience. The HD 449s are able to have loud output thanks to a sensitivity rating of 114 decibels, which is high among comparable headsets. The HD 449 uses a 32-ohm, low-impedance transducer to deliver high quality sound without requiring an additional amplifier. This makes the HD 449 great to use with most portable devices such as tablets, MP3 players, smartphones and laptops. While this over ear headphone set is geared more towards the portable market, the HD 449 is still strong enough to use with higher impedance audio equipment like DJ mixers. While the HD 449 does get a boost from this increased range, it does not necessarily mean that the sound quality is better. We noticed that while the Sennheiser HD 449s deliver accurate, high quality audio, they lack in the bass department. If you listen primarily to bass-heavy music genres like R&B, Techno, Rap or Dance, you may want to use the HD 449s with an amplifier.-------------------------------------FEATURES : 9.5/10-------------------------------------The Sennheiser HD 449 sports a 4-foot long cable with a 1/8-inch gold plated connector. One feature we are happy to see is that the cable only connects to the left earphone, instead of using a standard Y connection. This makes it easier for you to keep your cable from tangling or getting in the way. The best feature of the Sennheiser HD 449 is its weight. These headphones only weigh 6.9 ounces and do not grip your head with vise-like hold, so you will be able to wear this headset comfortably for hours. The HD 449 is a closed-ear headset, constructed of plastic with no visible metal. There is padding on the headband, and the earpads are soft leatherette cushions. While the closed-ear design helps block mild ambient noise sounds, we are disappointed that there is no additional noise-canceling feature. The earpads are also somewhat narrow, so if you have larger ears you may find it a little uncomfortable. The HD 449 headset does not fold, making it a little inconvenient to store or transport. We also would like to see an option to have a detachable cable.-------------------------------------ACCESSORIES : 9.5/10-------------------------------------Sennheiser includes a 5-foot extension cord, perfect for lounging or moving around without your headphone jack popping out. The included carrying pouch is large, but it does not offer much in the way of protection , so you will need to be careful when storing your HD 449s in bags or suitcases. A 1/8- to 1/4-inch adapter is included so you can connect to DJ or stereo jacks. We are impressed that Sennheiser includes the extension cable and the adapter, as most companies do not include much beyond a storage bag. Also, the soft leatherette earpad cushions are replaceable and not too expensive.-------------------------------------CONCLUSION : 9.3/10-------------------------------------The Sennheiser HD 449 stereo headphones are comfortable and great sounding. Although there is no noise cancelling beyond the closed earpad design covering your ears, their lightweight design makes them comfortable to use for extended listening sessions. Additionally, their accurate sound reproduction make these headphones a great choice for any music lover or audiophile.
- I got these so I wouldn\'t have to keep moving my headphones from my tv to my computer. They were on deep clearance for $38 as they are discontinued, but I feel that that is about what they are worth. I can\'t believe they retailed for $109. The sound quality is pretty good, Crab Rave sounded nice and bassy and the little clicks at the beginning sounded distinct. The fit and finish is pretty poor though. They feel like they are made of cheap plastic, the audio cable is not detachable, and they don\'t fold flat. The padding also feels kind of dry, but they are decently comfortable for the money. They aren\'t noise cancelling in an active sense, and only minimally so passively. Pretty good buy on clearance, but shell out the extra for a higher tier if you are paying full price.
