Infinity Primus 6004 - 4-Channel, 40W X 4 amplifier
- First, as noted in an earlier review, this amp produces 60 watts RMS per channel, not 40. (I wonder how many people have passed it over because of Amazon\'s incorrect product info?) Anyway, this little amp has plenty of power while being small enough to mount in a variety of places. Bass boost and high pass/low pass options give it a lot of flexibility, too. A great deal!
- I used this amp to do a highly custom install that hides the amp inside the dash. The compact form-factor was good for this. It installs after many hours. I EQ/tune everything and it sounds great. I put everything back together. The next morning a go for a drive and when I hit the 1st stop light, the amp cuts out all audio to my car for 5 seconds. This happens again, and again, and again... every stop light... every stop sign... when in stop/go traffic... etc...I then tear apart the car, again, and spend all day testing every possible point of failure with a volt meter. It turns out that the auto-stop/start function of the car causes a 1.3v voltage drop from main power (at battery) for 1 second while starting that is still well above the spec sheet\'s operating voltage of the amp, but the amp is cutting off due to that anyway. Since the voltage was in-spec, I thought maybe I had a bad amp so I swapped it out for the same one and found that all of them did this.I pull out the car battery and take it to the local auto-parts store to be tested. They said the battery test came back \"good\" but it is passed its half-life and I probably need to replace it in a year.I will say, when it is actually \"on\" the amp sounds great and I like that there is an added bass EQ for every channel. But, I would not recommend installing this amp on any newer vehicle that has the auto-stop/restart built into it. If your car is older and/or doesn\'t have the auto-stop/re-start feature, it would be great. I ended up spending $250 to replace a battery that didn\'t need to be replaced yet just so I didn\'t have to tear apart my dashboard for a 3rd time to install a better amp. I just did this on a fresh/full charge, so the jury is still out on if it will actually solve the problem.
- My speakers are 35W RMS. 40W will work. 60W will not work. Mislabeled
- Bought this Class D amp to replace the much larger Pioneer amp that I\'d just purchased for a 2010 Tacoma with a pair of Polk Audio 6x9s in the front doors and custom install of 6 1/2s in the rear doors. That Pioneer class A/B was running 134 degrees and overheating- both the amp and the entire truck. Wired right up to everything I\'d already run, and mounted easily. Took up lots less space (allowing for more mounting options) and is barely even warm to the touch. Don\'t make the same mistake I did with a class A/B amp, stick with a class D like this one.
- Been using this for a couple months now. Powering a set of Infinity 6x9 components, and a set of Infinity 6.5\" co-axial speakers. Sound is amazing! Amp does get a little warm, but not so much that it\'s an issue. And the thing is tiny. About half the size of the 50w x4 Kicker amp it replaced. Installation was quick and easy. Good value for the cost!
- This thing is small but produces great sound. I\'m still dialing the perfect levels for my setup.
- Very good sound, easy to follow instructions, very compact.
- very compact but pushes big full spectrum sound
