Bang & Olufsen Beoplay H3 in-Ear Headphones - Natural
- I picked up a pair of these earbuds for a steal here on an Amazon Cyber Monday Deal. I say steal because these earbuds could easily be a $299 set of buds. I wouldn\'t consider myself an audiophile, just a guy who appreciates great music listened through a great set of headphones or speakers. I\'ve dabbled in the audiophile and head-fi realm enough to know what makes a great set of ears and cans. In the industry I work in, I\'ve had the privilege of using some great IEMs, great cans, and solid earbuds. From Shure 535s to Westone 4r, Monster Pro Copper Turbines to Klipsch S4, Grado Cans to Consumer (Beats, Bose, etc). For a reference, here are some buds I\'ve tried and tested (Westone 4r, Westone 3, Shure 425, Shure 535, Sennheiser ie80, Klipsch S4, Beats, Monster Pro Copper, Monster Miles Davis, Bose, Munitio among others).Of the high end earbuds I\'ve tried, these B&O H3 are right up at the top. They are clear, crisp and tight on highs and mids. The instrument separation is phenomenal on these H3s and they are second to none. They aren\'t completely flat and without personality. Their sound signature and personality are amazing! I ran them through the gamut of musical genres and each genre was pure and excellent. For most average consumers (like myself) who stop in to Best Buy, we are inundated with earbuds and headphones that accentuate the bass and muddle the mids and highs. But the B&O H3 is a perfect balance (not a flat signature, but a perfectly balanced) of the bass with mids and highs. Some folks complain about the lack of lows, but I found the lows very present and pure. When I\'m listening to my music with my H3s, I feel like I\'m enjoying the tracks like the artists intended them to be enjoyed. I feel the bass, experience the beat, and love the rich and smooth tones of the lows. But, while the lows are pure, it doesn\'t kill the mids and highs. In fact, with the low present, the mid shines strong with the highs tight and crisp. One thing to understand when buying a set of IEMs, Earbuds, or Headphones is that some of these things are subjective. So, as you look around at your options, start with figuring out what you want our of your headphones. Are you looking for a powerful bass experience, hoping to be lost in the lows of the music? These may not be for you...(Check out Beats by Dre instead. They excel in this arena). Are you looking for a flat and true listening experience? These might work for you, but you could go more flat with Westone 3 or 4 series. Are you looking for a pure listening experience with a solid sound signature, listening to tracks the way that artists meant for you to listen to it? Then these might be a great option for you. You could also try Shure 425 or 535 (but for a little bit more money). All in all, of all of the IEM and earbuds that I\'ve tried, I\'m sticking with these! They are an incredible set of buds for the price.
- I am writing a review with my sister\'s account since she is the person that purchased the item. The silver BeoPlay H3\'s were a present from her to me and I received them a few days ago. To be straightforward with my review - I am disappointed with these headphones. My attachment with music began when I was young and has developed over the years. Within the past two years or so, I became more familiar with high performance headsets. I listen to music constantly whether I\'m on my university campus, doing homework, or just walking and music quality has become very important to me. I\'ve lurked on r/audiofile and read numerous reviews on many sites such as cnet. Though none of these sites seemed to outright encourage the purchase of H3\'s, I was sold by the appearance of them. I mean, they\'re just really damn sexy. I\'ve had tested out Bang and Olufsen\'s over-the-head headsets before so I wasn\'t worried about performance. And plus, it seems like most reviews emphasized the fact that the H3\'s were very neutral, which appealed to me since I listen to a very wide variety of genres. When my sister asked me for a wish list for my birthday, these were on the top of the list. I actually couldn\'t get myself to purchase these myself since I\'m still a college student and am relatively cash-strapped. I had been needing a replacement for my cheap Sony earbuds and my ATH-M50s were too bulky to wear while walking to campus. When I got them, I was very excited - but that was two days ago. My first real day of using them was today and I heard the sound develop and get more crisp as the day wore on. However, everything came crashing down literally just one hour ago. My H3\'s had been plugged into my macbook and I wanted to switch them out for my ATH-M50s. One tug however, led to the metal band on the headphone jack to come off. If you look at the attached photos, you can see that the metal band was initially glued on. The glue must have not had a good enough hold on the metal band. I\'m not sure if this is an isolated incident, since there aren\'t too many reviews of the H3s out there, including on amazon, but I was struck silent. I wasn\'t mad but rather disappointed. And embarrassed. I was embarrassed that I asked for such an expensive birthday present from my sister and it broke after just ONE day of casual use.I didn\'t swing these into a fit of flames, or throw them against the wall. I simply unplugged them and it broke! To be clear, the H3\'s have pretty solid audio quality and that\'s why I\'m giving the product 2 stars instead of 1. They\'re just what I expected and I\'m sure if I could listen to them longer, the sound would only get better. However, I really don\'t want to deal with another incident like this with a replacement. The fact that this happened on my first day of use scared me even more. Even if I got them replaced, would this happen again...? So I\'m returning them straight to Amazon.I hope my review helped some of you guys who are deciding whether to make this purchase out. And I also apologize if there were any typos in my review. I actually had to stop working on my paper for 2 hours due to this incident (had to print out return label, package the H3\'s, tell all my roommates about my predicament..). Maybe this issue would have been avoided if Bang & Olufsen went with a L-shaped connector jack. Just a suggestion!
- I\'ve had these for almost a month and have mixed feelings. The sound quality is superb. Listening to these after my last $65 earbuds was a revelation. Over time my ears have adjusted to the quality, but I doubt I could ever listen to cheap earbuds again. That said, I do think they feel very fragile. The earpiece itself is milled aluminum and seems to be very high quality, and is comfortable. The cord, remote and plug are not substantial at all. With only one months use I have not had any actual issues, but I have suspicions about their durability. The remote is my only serious complaint. The design is quite poor if you use the skip song or call answer functionality as I do. The problem is that the remote has a single flat button that \"tips\" one way another to change volume. You need to press this button straight down to pause, play or answer calls. This is quite finicky to do, as the button really wants to tip, not go straight down. It\'s hard enough to do once, but you have to do it twice in a row to skip a song, or three times to go back. This is nearly impossible. You end up raising or lowering the volume, or pausing, or some combination of the two. If you don\'t use the remote for this then you will have no issues, but if you do it\'s quite infuriating. Just bad design.I gave them 4 stars because they really do sound fantastic and that\'s what most people want in expensive earbuds. The durability concerns are only a suspicion. As I have had no actual problems yet it\'s not justified to rate them poorly for this. I will update the review if problems do develop in the future. The remote really is a terrible design and this failure is reflected in the rating.I hope this helps some of you who are considering this purchase.
