Klipsch T5 II True Wireless Sport Earphones McLaren Edition with Dust/Waterproof Case & Earbuds, Best Fitting Ear Tips, Ear Wings, 32 Hours of Battery Life, & Wireless Charging Case

  • First off, I am hoping people being to expressly understand there is a distinct difference between \"headphones\" and \"earbuds\". The Klipsch T5 II\'s are earbuds. Headphones are those things that fit over the top of your head and covers both of your ears. Please refer to them accordingly.During my 30+ years in broadcasting, I\'ve got to know the name, Klipsch. It\'s right up there with Sennheiser and Sony. The new guys to radio may not have heard of them at all...but us old-timers? Oh yeah. As with anything, there are varying degrees of quality, and same for Klipsch. I am thrilled to say the T5 II\'s are on the high end, no doubt about it.Pros:Phenomenal sound quality.Battery life.Fit & Feel.Looks.Pretty good companion app.Wireless charging.Quick charge option.Great noise isolation.Charging Case is water resistant.Designed for sports.Did I mention audio quality...?Cons:The Charging Case.Bluetooth can be sketchy (but only occasionally). Not as smooth switching to one single earbud as Sony and some other brands.USB-C charging port on inside of case. Are the T5 II\'s perfect? Nope. But damn, they\'re pretty close though (IMO). Sure, you\'ll find some nifty features in airpods Pro you won\'t find with these (but only in relation to using them with apple products) but do those features truly make the trade-off\'s you make worth it? Again, IMO absolutely NOT. First off, the airpods Pro sound pretty good, certainly better than the original airpods, no doubt about that. But they simply cannot compete with the fidelity Klipsch can provide...and if we\'re being honest, audio quality is the defining reason for buying these in the first place. The audio is crisp with great low\'s, mid\'s and high\'s. The bass is great, but it doesn\'t overpower your music and you can still hear clarity and the warmth of vocals, individual instruments. That is something that few other brands of earbuds can compete with. I have seen dozens of reviews, and opinions may vary, some quite dramatically so, but the actual science behind audio backs up my statements. You may find a pair of earbuds that sound AS good, but I have yet to personally hear any that sound better...and I have sampled or personally purchased at least 50+ pairs of earbuds and dozen and dozens of headphones (in my career, that\'s an occupational hazard). I work with audio for a living and have done so for 30+ years. It\'s safe to say I know good, bad and exceptional audio quality when I hear it...and Klipsch DELIVERS.Recently, I bought the Sony WF-1000XM3 noise cancelling earbuds. They certainly cost more than the Klipsch (by about $70 last I checked) and reportedly have some of - if not the best noise cancelling in the audio industry. First off, that is absolutely untrue. Sony\'s ANC is exceptional on their headphones, pretty astonishing what they are capable of actually...but earbuds? Whoa. It is so microscopic as to be useless, especially when you factor in the huge battery loss you get with it enabled. My advice is: try something else. The truth is you aren\'t going to get really great noise cancellation with devices as small as earbuds anyway. I\'m sure one day we will, but that day is NOT today. It is almost a waste of money to pay extra for the function these days, but to each his own, right? What truly counts is how noise isolating you can get your earbuds to fit in your ears in order to maximize the audio you\'re receiving. This is true regardless of whether or not you have ANC built-in or not. It still makes a HUGE difference. Having the transparency option can make a difference for some. Personally I don\'t use the function, but many do. Klipsch has the option in case you feel the need to use it.The T5 II\'s come with 6 pairs of oval shaped eartips to help create the proper seal for your earbuds. I cannot emphasize enough how important this is. The McLaren edition goes 1 step further and offers an additional memory foam eartip (which I sure wish the other Sport editions would adopt as well) which I\'ll wager helps even more to secure a better fit in order to help further that sound isolation which helps audio become even more fine-tuned.The audio gets plenty loud, too. I paired mine immediately to my Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 and use it for my workouts and the audio is just fantastic. My ONLY issue is for the first few minutes, it would be almost sporadic in the connection. That connection should be great considering both use bluetooth 5.0, which is so much better and more stable than previous versions. Klipsch goes a step further with firmware updates to help this. I need to check to see if any are available just to be sure, but that was my only issue...and it only lasted for a few minutes. The fit and feel of the earbuds are just great. They were very comfortable, enough for long listening without ear fatigue. Keep in mind everyone\'s ears are different, so this is a one size fits MOST situation. For some I\'m sure, it won\'t be nearly as good...but that\'s just life in general. Klipsch did have a problem with the earlier versions of the wing tips that are included. They were way too loose and would almost constantly move and adjust AS you were wearing them causing them to lose that great isolating fit that helps. My pair came with several different wing tips and the ones that were already on the earbuds were just right for me, and they fit much better, so kudos to Klipsch for fixing this issue fairly quickly. One of the things I truly like about the T5 II\'s is how cool they look. I went with the white edition. It seems like so many are already black, so white I think is my favorite color for earbuds (outside of apple products, which don\'t even have an option of a different color). The button on the side of each works (so far) flawlessly. I prefer this to other \"touch\" like options on other earbuds. Physical buttons are (for me anyway) preferable because it\'s easier not to accidentally pause, play or backtrack a song during play if I happen to reach up to adjust my earbud for any reason. This has been an issue with several other earbuds I own and is endlessly annoying to me. This may not even be an issue for you, and that\'s okay. Everyone is different. For me however, the actual buttons are preferable than the simple touch gestures that come standard on other brands. The earbuds aren\'t especially large, either. Having come from a pair of Bose Sound Sport Free\'s (which sounded great, BTW) but were just gigantic by comparison. Also the Sony\'s I mentioned earlier, also big and rather bulky. The Klipsch barely register by comparison and are incredibly more comfortable. The Sony\'s never EVER stayed seated in my ears well, which is weird, because I also own a pair of WF-XB700\'s which stay put in my ears great and also sound fantastic...but the 1000XM3\'s? Nope. The right earbud fell out quite often, even after just sitting and not doing ANY kind of movement. Not sure why they fit so poorly, but again, everyone is different. The wing tips are a HUGE part of why the Klipsch fit so perfectly. I find earbuds that do not come with them to be sub par (even if they sound great) and they could all benefit by using this option. Okay, that was a bit harsh. Not all need them, but they sure do work well with the Klipsch. Anyway, they look great, and fit almost perfect for my particular ear type. Another enormous plus. The charging case is another matter entirely. Some will love it. Some simply won\'t. Keep in mind they were designed with sports in mind, and have some pretty genuinely great features that many other pairs of earbuds simply do not...and at least one feature I\'ve never seen before on any other pair. The case is kind of bulky. But then again, so is the case for the Sony WF-1000XM3\'s. In fact you could argue one is even more bulky than the other. The case for the Powerbeats Solo is equally huge and annoying. What I\'m saying here is there are going to be trade-off\'s to some degree when you get whatever you choose to buy. You can go with a pair of earbuds with a much smaller case and easier to carry in your front pocket, but the case won\'t be water resistant like the Klipsch. Nor will they have a moisture absorbing feature built-in to handle any excess moisture that may accumulate on your earbuds while wearing them during a particularly vigorous workout, or maybe in a heavy rainfall. Just keep that in mind before purchasing. Smaller does not always equate to better for what you plan to use them for. The case can charge your earbuds pretty quick, too. 15 minutes will give you I think somewhere like 90 minutes to 2 hours of listening time...so that is pretty convenient regardless of the brand you may buy. The earbuds themselves offer approximately 8 hours of listening time...but that is obviously going to depend how loud you have them, so unless you have them on a lower volume, that number is going to vary by at least an hour I would imagine. I have yet to listen long enough to run out, so I don\'t know for sure. All I know is for 2-3 hour listening, they do the job admirably.I almost bought the McLaren edition, but the only thing they offered that these didn\'t was a wireless charging pad, which I must admit, is pretty cool...but I already own about 8 of those, so it was a loss I was okay with...and the memory foam eartips and that\'s it (aside from the fancy case and card that comes in the packaging...which is nice, but nowhere anything that I need to make my listening any better. As a result I paid about $30 less. It was worth it for me. But if you lack those other things, consider paying a little extra, you may find it worthwhile. All in all I am HUGELY impressed. Best sounding earbuds I have ever listened to. If it weren\'t for the bluetooth issue I mentioned earlier, these would be a solid 5 star review all around. In fact, after the firmware update, I may go ahead and update my review to reflect this. Time will tell. All I can say is this: I LOVE my Klipsch.***UPDATE***I discovered something today that has solved a bit of a mystery for me. Initially, when I paired my T5 II\'s to my Galaxy Watch 3, I had a little issue with the bluetooth connection. After using a different mp3 player with bluetooth, I made an interesting discovery: every time I held the mp3 player in my right hand, or put it in my right pocket, I had no problem with the connection. The very moment I put it in my left pocket, my connection began to get sketchy. Now this is problematic for a pretty big reason: the connection is supposed to have a range of 30+ feet. This means that there shouldn\'t be any reception issues when both devices are no more than 2.5 feet apart, right? Go figure. For what these cost and how impressive they are in virtually every other measure, a solid bluetooth connection for at LEAST 30 feet shouldn\'t even be in question. I began googling the issue and several people posted that resetting the earbuds and re-pairing them should do the trick. Nope. If anything, the connection got worse. Like measurably and easily discernable. Back to square one.I figured that unless and until I figured the problem out, or until Klipsch solved the issue with a firmware update (and yes, I made sure my earbuds were up to date in that department), I would simply have to wear my watch on my right wrist instead. A bit of a pain, but not too big. And then I found out something which changed everything:Whichever earbud you remove FIRST from the case, is the main unit that pairs with whatever you are listening to (your phone, mp3 player, smart watch, etc). My habit was to remove the right earbud for all the earbuds I have ever owned. It\'s been a natural habit of mine. But after I tried the opposite, I have noticed that there is ZERO issues with audio cutting out. Again, this doesn\'t change the fact that the connection when the right earbud is removed first really SHOULDN\'T have a problem when my watch and earbuds are no more than as mentioned before, 2.5 feet apart. But for some really odd reason, it is. The reason why Klipsch does this is so either earbud can be your main for listening, and should you wish to charge the other one, you can do so, and the audio will continue playing in the main bud (after a 2-3 second catching up as the device realizes what you\'ve just done). Sony\'s 1000XM3\'s can do this too...without losing audio at ALL...but the trade offs for this little function is also rather significant (at least for me) so keep that in mind. It\'s a nifty feature and one that I\'ve not ever seen in any other models that I\'ve personally tested, but an impressive option nevertheless. I\'m actually surprised Klipsch doesn\'t highlight this more in their marketing for the T5 II\'s, but that\'s entirely their call of course. I pass it along in case you find a similar situation and are desperate for a work-around.I\'ll keep the original 4 stars simply because regardless of which earbud I remove first, the connection really ought to be rock solid from such a short distance. Had they corrected this, I was prepared to move my rating up to 5 stars. Well...maybe after another update perhaps...? We\'ll see. I hope this helps!
