Plantronics Voyager 520 Bluetooth Headset - Bulk Packaging!

When bluetooth headsets first came out, I was very leery of the hype. I mean how could you have something over your ear and it be comfortable?Well, eventually I bit the bullet and started investing into bluetooth headsets. Now at the present, I have been too many to count and really most of them were only with me for 6 months to a year if they were any good and 2 months if they were bad.At a friend\'s suggestion, I started looking at the Plantronics Voyager 520. I have now had this headset for about 4 months and here is my impression of it in an easy to read table.Cons:1. It really doesn\'t fit well over glasses. I use glasses a lot and I notice that if I make slight movements, I have to readjust the bluetooth headset so it\'s back to where I like it. (I wish that there was an in-ear option)2. Doesn\'t have audio talk like some other bluetooth headsets where when you turn the headset on, it tells you the battery level and other info. This headset doesn\'t have that.3. I thought that this headset needed to be able to be louder. But in the Plantronics defense, it might just be me because I have been told I\'m very bad at hearing.Pros:1. In my opinion, the noise-cancelling worked very well! I am always on a busy university campus (which is like a small sized city) and the background noise can be very loud, yet people always heard me very well. I tried it on during a football game, and that overwhelmed the headset and neither I nor the receiving end could hear each other, but what can you expect? It\'s not magic after all.2. Extremely easy to pair to iPhone 3G S and the HTC Sensation 4G. The pairing process was pain and hastle free on both the iPhone and the Android.3. I actually could walk to the other side of the house, one floor above my iPhone, and still have good call audio quality. They could hear me and I could hear them. The fact that this actually worked blew me away, because most headsets advertise that they work for \"over 300 feet\" and other such claims but sure something might work, but most don\'t work well. This product does work well through walls and even at a different height than the phone.Conclusion:This headset is probably one of the best you can get for the money. I got it in September 2011 and it was $30, but today 1/28/12 it is $35. Still, this is one of the best headsets you can get for 35 dollars.However, if you are willing to spend 50 dollars, I would definitely recommend this over the Plantronics Voyage 520: Motorola HX550 Universal Bluetooth Headset, Black .If you are not willing to spend the 50 dollars, you will still be very happy with this headset. I know I am.
I purchased this in May, and liked it well enough to buy a second one, only I never got around to it. My thought was that even though this one goes for hours of talk time between charges, there are times when I travel that charging is not an option. My thought was \"backup\". The sound quality is good. Generally everyone was happy on the other end which is not always the case with bluetooth headsets. At my end, it was able to go louder than most. That comes in handy in airports or other noisy environments. The reversible ear clip not only works well, but unlike some sets I have owned, it fits flat and rotates to work for either ear. You don\'t have to mess around with a bag of spare parts. It\'s flat enough to go in a shirt pocket without protruding too much, so dealing with it when not in use is good.So why only 4 stars? By October, it was deader than a doornail. I normally get a year to two years before a headset just dies. This one was a lot shorter than that. And while it may not matter to some, the charger connection is a proprietary round connector I have not experienced before. That means you may need to plan for additional purchases for car or AC adaptors. Other sets I have owned have had USB mini connectors which are the same as my Blackberry and Android phones. Also, the one I purchased in May came as some kind of OEM bundle, with a car charger included, and one AC adaptor with detachable USB end, so it can also work off the side of a laptop. I do like this well enough to replace it with the same model, pending whatever Plantronics does for warranty. If they do replace it, I will have the two I initially wanted. The set that I just purchased this week arrived yesterday from Cellular Boys, via Amazon Prime. It had only a conventional AC charger that does not include the USB attachment, nor car charger. It was also about $8 less than the first one, so it\'s still a good deal.I know this is a lot of words over a simple headset, but when you make a living talking to people all day, these things do matter. I like this set.
