Sennheiser Professional HD 25 PLUS On-Ear Monitor Headphones

  • I thought I\'d \"upgrade\" to these after having a pair of Sony Professional over ears for the first few years I learned to DJ. These cost about 60 bucks more so I expected them to be great.Good: The sound on these is excellent and barely anything is lost with the on-ear design. They\'re lightweight and comfortable, you could mix with these for hours and your ears won\'t get sore or sweaty.Bad: Every negative thing about these comes down to the build quality. The rubber pads peel immediately after you start using them, right off the bat. The wire is super short, so these things get ripped off your head pretty frequently if you\'re active behind the decks. After that, it was about three months before the connectors started getting loose and making crackling noises and drops in volume. I constantly have to fiddle with the connectors to get the sound to come through correctly. The connectors are not enclosed, so it\'s easy to bump them and loosen them. Eventually, the left one started to do the same. It was too far outside a return window to do anything about this and I\'m pretty unsatisfied with these.Stick with cheaper Sony headphones until you can go up one more tier and stay far away from these.
  • Well-built and durable for location use, good passive noise cancellation, fit is fine, glad to finally purchase and use as a monitoring device. Recommended, especially for the replacement parts availability.
  • These, sound wise, are on par with the Momentum 2s or the HD599s or the AKG K451s. If you\'re familiar with those and like the sound signature, you\'ll get more of the same with the HD25s. I found the clamping a bit much out of the box but gently stretching the headband reduces the clamping. I like the adjustable split headband. I like that nearly every part is replaceable. I\'m not wild about the stock ear pads and plan to replace those soon with something plusher. That said, I wouldn\'t hesitate to buy this model again and certainly recommend it to anyone who enjoys great portable sound. I\'ve played it through my headphone amp, my receiver, my television, and my telephone. It performs well on all. This model really excels with flacs, compact discs, or hi rez streaming. The sound is energetic yet balanced and easily heard in loud environments like public transport or airplanes. The soundstage is virtually non-existent but I barely noticed because the sound is so wonderfully tuned. The HD 25 handles all genres well. I\'ve been able to wear these headphones for a few hours at a time. YMMV.
  • These were my first DJ headphones. They are virtually weightless and extremely flexible. I could wear them a couple of hours at a time and not be in agony. Even, clear sound - not the bassiest choice you can make for sound though.HOWEVER:They lasted about a year before the connection went to crap and the right cable began to short out. Now, they require me to wiggle, press and bend on the right side (red) connection point in order for both sides to work, and it\'s not always stable, even or consistent. And of course, wouldn\'t you know it, this happened just out of warranty and Sennheiser didn\'t deem them worthy of repair. It really drove me nuts and I had to replace them. Since I was mad at Sennheiser I went with a different brand, at which time I learned that I really like a coiled, detachable cable with ONE connection point, and that I prefer over-ear cups to on-ear.Your mileage may vary on all of this - the fit, how you perceive the sound, whether they stay functional for you, but this was my experience with these entry-level cans and I wouldn\'t buy them again. If I didn\'t prefer over-ears to on-ears, I\'d make the investment in the HD25 plus model and skip these altogether though, because yeah, senni sound.
  • One of the best headphones
  • I bought these for DJing, to replace a heavily used, 15+-year-old pair of Sony MDR-7506 that finally broke down. I went with these due to the overwhelmingly positive reviews: best DJ headphones ever; been using them for 20 years; don\'t even bother with anything else; blah, blah, blah.Well...I don\'t get the hype. These are smallish and light headphones with decent sound. And that\'s it. As compared to the 7506, I feel that they\'re a significant downgrade:A) They feel really plasticy and flimsy. Both are made of plastic of course, but these just leave a much cheaper and less solid overall impression.B) They\'re much, much less comfortable in every way. The headband is smaller and less adjustable, the ear cups are tiny and less padded. And I don\'t understand the point of the rotating left cup at all. When I am DJing using only one ear cup it moves a bit, and then when I drop the headphones back around my neck they stick out at a weird angle. So I\'m forced to reach up and push them back into normal position. How does this help?C) Sound quality is not quite as good. It\'s probably a bit more neutral, which might be good if you\'re doing music production, but for DJ work I really want bass and richness. MDR-7506 delivers quite well here and these things sound slightly tinny in comparison.D) The cord on the 7506 is much nicer feeling. Soft rubberized spiral there, vs straight and not-quite-flexible-enough plastic on these.E) The 7506 cost 33% less.F) The 7506 include a carrying case. (Very minor, but still.)So all in all, I can\'t recommend these. Obviously they have their fans; loads of them. As always, YMMV. I\'m not going to send my pair back at this point. They\'re good enough, and given the build quality I suspect I\'m not going to get even close to 15 years out of these before some bit breaks -- probably that ridiculous rotating ear cup -- and I buy something else instead. Who knows, maybe at some point I\'ll stumble upon that hidden element that makes these the \"best of all time.\" I can only hope.
  • These headsets are just great, ready for you to take them wherever you go. Excellent for noisy places and for booths with no noise cancellation. Great audio quality
