singlecue Gen 2 – Remoteless control for your Living Room devices. Compatible with Alexa
- The idea behind this is brilliant, if it would have actually worked. I bought this as a gift to my mother who has very bad eye sight. The idea that she can control her TV and other smart home devices excited her. When the package got here we immediately tried to set it up. The outside box was in great condition however the Singlecue box looked rough. I just shrugged it off bc the box is pretty thick and the Singlecue itself looked unharmed. When I took it out of the box I was told to remove a thin plastic protector and this unfortunately wasn\'t there. The set up process was a nightmare. You have to download an app that walks you through the steps. After it downloaded on my phone I couldn\'t get it to connect to the Singlecue hotspot. Then I downloaded it to my mom\'s phone. Finally, I was getting somewhere as it connected to the hotspot. Once it connected it has you go through gestures and you have to complete each three times. I made it to the second or third gesture and it stopped recognizing my movements. It allowed me to come back later and try them again so I moved on to the remote set up.This process went flawlessly. I got the blue check mark after each button stating it recognized each button. At the end it told me that it failed. I now had to go through each code on at a time. After completing them all only one would control power but nothing else.I ended up calling customer support as this had all taken over an hour. I spoke with someone who told me that customer support was no longer in and their hours were the same as mine. Since there was no way to talk to them I sent an email. They replied within a day, it said to reset it and try again, if that didn\'t work call customer support.I gave it a few days and tried again. All the same problems but this time it took longer for my mom\'s phone to connect to the Singlecue hotspot. Eventually I got connected again and then the Singlesue froze and rebooted. It ended up freezing twice more trying to set it up and we decided it wasn\'t worth the headache.I was so excited to give this to my mother. In the end it wasn\'t worth a single time or a minute of my time. I just put in for a return slip this morning. I truly hope in a few years they fix all the issues I had or someone comes out with a similar but better product.
- **UPDATE : a nice man reached out to me and was very accommodating. I\'m currently out of town and will work with him when I return home. Will update again after we troubleshoot.Original review : It took me about a half hour to fully set it up, but after going through everything (tutorials AND advanced set up for each paired device) I can\'t figure out how to get it to do what I want. I added four devices and only three show up on the device (they\'re all showing up on the app and I synced my phone to the device three times). I have a cable box and I cannot get SingleCue to access the guide or my dvr recordings.... I went through several steps pairing my appleTV remote and it won\'t connect to my appleTV at all. I\'ve sent an email to their support team to see what I\'m doing wrong. I\'ll update this review when I hear back from them. Also, scrolling through options is VERY sensitive. I have to scroll back and forth several times to get the options I want. The shush feature seemed cool, but didn\'t work for me well at all.The devices goes to sleep QUICKLY, so if you are trying to remember a gesture -- be prepared to gesture it back on and start over :/Depending on how their customer service is, this could very possibly be returned :(I was so excited about this, but my excitement had quickly turned into frustration!
- The functionality of waking it, controlling it, turning on and off my tv/apple tv works perfect, and almost better than I hoped for. The problem is, the gen 2 is misleading when you watch preview videos of what I believe is the gen 1. There is no ability to freely move around the apple tv menu. There is only an up,down, left, right, and ok arrows in the singlcue options, so I need to manually click vs. freely gesture while navigating the menus. This alone becomes too much work, so sadly, I\'ll be going back to my apple remote. This would be 4 stars with the free gesture. It would be 5 stars if it came with higher support. I\'ve got an August lock, Lutron lights, WeMo lights, and more, and there is no integration. Some IFTTT integration would be great as well. But with only apple tv and regular tv, it isn\'t enough.Adding Fire TV support would be amazing as well. With how incredible this tech is, and how much easier it is for me to lay in bed and not look for a remote... I am so excited for what is to come and all of the possibilities. This product is a great taste of future tech, but not practical for $150.
- I am a fan of the Single Cue. Currently I use it for turning on all the systems I need for a single task such as if I want to use my Roku, it goes to the right input, turns on my soundbar and the the TV, it does a similar setup for my Nintendo (Old school, though I manually turn on the console), and my playstation. It is handy for muting commercials with a single gesture, though it sometimes thinks drinking or picking ones nose (found out by watching a movie with the kids) or eating counts as the silent gesture. They are still updating with new gestures, though there are still some kinks to be worked out. I think its a fun device that makes life slightly easier, but we still use the remotes so take it with a grain of salt.
- I\'m a techie person so anytime I see a new home automation product I jump on it. This device is great if you understand how new technology works. It gets the job done but it\'s not perfect. It kind of reminds me of the 1st generation of Kinect.ProsIt works petty well. It found all my devices except for the Xbox One. Apparently support for consoles is coming. It works with HUE and other smart home devices.ConsIt is quirky. The \"shush\" function rarely works for me. This mutes your audio. Doesn\'t work with consoles like the Xbox. This isn\'t a huge deal but it bugs me. It needs infrared!!! Does not work in the dark.I recommend this device if you\'re a techie person and like to explore fun technology. Don\'t expect a non techie person to understand this device.
