- You have to install based on the instructions and aim for local cell towers based on frequency, bands, etc. It is also important to note that you may need a 30 ft pole for full functionality. I am convinced that this would have been perfect had it been installed 100% correctly. It did improve service for most everyone, but keep in mind that Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile/Sprint towers may be in different directions, so installing it of a pole that allows for easy adjustment would help.
- We picked this up to help improve reception while camping and it has improved the situation moderately for us. Note that it is important to read the instructions as placement of the antenna and booster is very important.
- This is a revision of my earlier review which while absolutely accrurate was not entirely complimentary. After posting that review (and with the intent to return the booster), customer service contacted me to try and resolve my problems. It took a while, but thanks to one dedicated employee at Solid RF, most of my issues have been satisfactorily resolved. It seems that the original booster (the part containing the CPU) was not functioning properly, so the company sent me a replacement which made a tremendous difference.Once that was changed out, it made a noticeable difference, but my signal strength is so weak that there isn\'t a lot that they could do to actually make it work properly. Still, with this unit and some help from customer service, I can now use the phone and actually carry on a conversation without the call being dropped in the middle of the conversation. If you look at the attached photos, they are screenshots of my cell strength. The first two were taken with the original booster unit, while the third one shows the difference in signal strength with the replacement that I was sent. In the interest of full disclosure, the third pic shows the same phone, but with a different service provider. Part of my problem appears to be that the cell service provider that I had when I started this process does not provide the strongest signal in my area and even when not in range of the booster, my signal strength is a little better with the new provider, but with the booster it is MUCH better. I only gave it 4 stars because in order for the phone to receive the effect of the booster, it has to be in very close physical proximity to the booster unit (within 6 feet or so). If you read the information in the product description on Amazon, you will find that in order to get the maximum boosted area, you have to have a fairly strong outdoor signal to start with - and I don\'t. So with a weaker incoming signal, you end up with a much smaller boost radius from the booster, and there isn\'t anything Solid RF can do about that. Still, it is a limiting factor and the advertising says up to 1400 sq ft, while my area is just over 100 sq ft. My workaround for that is to establish the call, then place the phone next to the booster and use a bluetooth earpiece to carry on the conversation. That way I am not tied to one place, even if the phone is.The booster was easy enough to set up, though it is tempermental. The booster unit has to be to the side and rear or the antenna, but according to the instructions, not directly behind it. If not set up properly, the antenna will \'see\' the booster and it will create oscillation. This limits where the booster can be located, but I managed to work around that.If you decide to buy this booster, and it does not work entirely to your satisfaction, don\'t hesitate to contact customer serivce - they are tremendous.
- Took me from one bar that would fade in and out in my basement, making it impossible to reliably make or receive calls, to a steady three bars. I have a lot of high trees on the side of my property that faces the closest cell tower and had to walk outside 20-50 yards to make a call and that was on good days. I put this on my over the air antenna mast about 25 feet up and it worked somewhat first try. I went from 0-1 bar to 1-2 bars enough so calls wouldn\'t drop out or wouldn\'t go through at all. The problem was oscillation (explained in the manual) it\'s basically feedback like from a microphone and had to do with how I had the excess coax cable rolled up (even though I followed manuals suggestions) I tried a bunch of different ways and it still had error lights flashing on unit, but it still made using my cell in the house possible and especially in my basement within 20 feet of the unit so I was fine with that. Today I pulled excess cable into my house and just let it go wherever didn\'t roll it up and error lights went away and I get a solid 3 bars. So trial and error with excess coax is the one thing that can be annoying otherwise great price and works.
- Boosted signal by more than two bars
- This is an easy recommendation. It does exactly what it claims and is easy to install. Outside my home I have 3-4 bars of signal. Inside my home I had one or none and would often have to go outside to make calls. After installing this I’ve had no issues making calls from inside my home and signal is the same inside as it is out. The only thing this doesn’t do is increase throughput for cellular internet connections. My T Mobile internet speeds remain the same. That being said based on my experience with this product if they had a booster that used MIMO and boosted cellular home internet speeds I’d love to try it out!
- I have followed the instructions and installed the antenna on my roof pointing at the cell tower located a few miles east of me. I have this on the 3rd floor and the internal antenna is in the basement. Definately more that 30 feet. I plug in the repeater and I get maybe 2 or 3 bars when standing next to it. This is better than the 1 or 0 bars I normally get. I can\'t get you a more precise dB rating without an app to tell me that info. I was excited that I was getting more bars but when I did bandwidth tests the performance is horrible. Half the time the app would time out looking for a server. I walked up to the 3rd floor and I got between 27 and 60Mbps. I could barely break 2Mbps when it worked at all. I\'m going to keep messing with it but from what I can tell, there is a bottle neck on the speed somewhere between the roof antenna and the basement antenna. Showing more bars but not improving performance is not what I\'m looking for.
- The product description warned against buying if you have little to no signal outside, and I have exactly that. I bought it anyway hoping for a miracle. I get -120db outside on my porch and no signal inside. I installed this and placed the indoor antenna barely 20-25 feet away inside at the same vertical level. (not high up on a pole) I now get -100 to -90db. My speed went from 1.2mbps to nearly 40mbps at best. 20mbps on average. Thank you so much for this product! I couldn\'t be happier. Now I just have to figure out how to properly install it, as of right now the cable just goes through a crack in my window.
