- I did a lot of reading before purchasing an iPod dock and this had some of the most favorable reviews of the many I investigated. Having owned the unit now for a few weeks I can say I am very pleased with the product.THE SOUND: The term \"audiophile\" is thrown around alot in these reviews, but when it comes down to it I think most of us can hear the difference between good and bad sound. The Klipsch has incredible sound. Strong, rich bass (the biggest plus for my ears), excellent highs and mids, and good amplification that can easily fill a big room without sounding like you\'re stressing the unit. I give its \"sound\" 5/5 stars.THE BUTTONS: It\'s a very simple device, and it seems like the lab put all its efforts into making kick-ass sound, but not much else. It has a power button, and a volume up and down button. That\'s it. Kinda artistic in its minimalism.DOCKING: They were kind enough to include a plethora of docking inserts to accommodate any type of 30 pin device you may own. I found that with my iPod classic in its case, however, the docking insert prohibited its attachment. The same went for my iPhone 4S. No matter, it docks just fine without these inserts.FUNCTIONALITY: The only thing that could have made it better is more functionality, or a LED display or something. Basically, this unit is ONLY for listening. You could perhaps set it up to be an alarm clock, but only using the alarm clock function on your device. No radio, no CD player, no equalizer, no clock, nothing.INPUTS: Thankfully it has a minijack input, so you can attach other devices that don\'t have the iPhone 30 pin attachment. It also has an S-Video input. I\'m quite sure I\'ve never used this type of input, ever.REMOTE: Also minimalistic in its functionality: play/pause, volume +/-, track fwd/bkwd and mute. You cannot \"control\" your device, bring up your menu so you can scroll through your library, or adjust sound settings (eg no \"bass boost\" button) and the like. Again, its obvious they put their time and effort into sound, not bells and whistles.Despite these limitations this is still an excellent unit and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a simple device with excellent sound to enhance the atmosphere of your living space, your parties, etc. If you want an all in one unit to wake you up, cook your breakfast, serve your friends tea and feed your pet, look elsewhere.
- The Klipsch iGroove SXT is one of many iPod docks on the market. If sound quality is the number one feature you want in your iPod dock, this unit would be an excellent choice. This dock has a great tonal quality with a generally balanced sound. Bass is responsive, yet controlled and midrange and high frequencies are clear and detailed. We use the device in our kitchen area set on a small stand and find the unit does an excellent job of creating a spacious sound field throughout the room, so while you can easily tell what direction the sound is originating from it never sounds like it is coming directly at you from a single speaker regardless of your location.I do wish the mounting for the iPod or iPhone themselves offered better support for the device, specifically that it came with something like rubber pads you would get with bookshelf speakers to support the back of the iPod when in the dock. As it is, thinner devices like an iPod Touch or iPhone have nothing but the dock connector to support them. I see this strain on the connector as a risk for failure after long-term use. The lack of support and strain on the connector is only amplified when you navigate through your music or playlists which must be done on the iPod or iPhone itself as the iGroove cannot be used to control the iPod menus. To avoid putting strain on the connector you can either use two hands, one to hold the top of the iPod/iPhone still and the other to navigate the device, or you could place some stick-on rubber foot or pad as previously described to the iGroove so the back of the iPod/iPhone rests against the rubber. I chose the latter solution in my case sticking a small round rubber foot unused from a set of bookshelf speakers I have and it works well to address this minor shortcoming.Pros:- Excellent sound quality throughout the musical range- Slight angling of speakers helps with sound dispersion throughout a room- Charges wide-range of models while docked- S-video output for display of video content from supported iPod models- Input for connecting an external audio device- Attractive styling- Responsive, though simple, remote controlCons:- Back of thinner iPods or iPhones is not supported so navigating the device while docked can put strain on docking connector- Inability to navigate iPod menus from dock or remote- Unit turns on if it was off when removing a docked iPod/iPhone (an inefficient yet harmless annoyance)Overall I feel the pros of the iGroove, most importantly the clear, rich sound it produces, greatly outweigh its weaknesses and so I would definitely recommend it as a solution for great sound in a small to medium sized room.
- I needed a second sound dock for my iPhone4 (my iPod Touch resides in it\'s own docking station/sound dock in the bedroom - LogiTech, which is average at best). I bought the BOSE unit for, I believe, [...], because it sounded great at Best Buy. Brought it home, set it up, and placed my iPhone 4 in the cradle. Got an immediate message that this phone is NOT supported. WHAT THE EFF IS UP WITH THAT Doctor Bose? come on. The iPod 64gig sounded great in it, but I REALLY wanted something for the phone. The ISSUE with BOSE is that the demos in the store are \"canned\" - you can not insert your own device to see how it works. And no where on the box labeling does it say \"does not support the iPhone 4\" which has been out for over half a year now....I went back to BB, tried to find the Audyssey South of Market Sound Dock, due to it\'s rave reviews. Out of Stock everywhere I went/looked - including here (although they have it now). So since I was back in Best Buy returning the Bose, I looked around some more and stumbled upon this little sound dock. I was pretty amazed at the Bass and overall clarity from such a small unit (I placed my iPhone in it and played it at the store). Came home and bought it at Amazon to get the free shipping and save the sales taxes, plus it was [...] less than BB.I still want something with a little more \"punch\" and will continue to look at options (the Dr Dre wasn\'t that great sounding for the $$$). Maybe Bose will eventually support the iPhone4 (like maybe when the iPhone 5 comes out?) at which time I might grab that. I also want to find the Audyssey dock at a store and actually LISTEN to it as I might go that direction. In the mean time, this little guy is doing a good job for me. Definitely worth the money.
