iHome iA5 App-Enhanced 30-Pin iPod/iPhone Alarm Clock Speaker Dock
- I was a bit worried when I saw some of the other reviews, but I\'ve tried a few other speaker/clock combos and have been disappointed. So I thought I\'d try this device that was so clearly designed to work with the iPhone, especially with the app.First, this clock is stylish and attractive and looks great sitting next to my bed. The dock is completely exposed instead of being in a cutout, which is nice because it even works when my phone is in a thick silicone case. Also, unlike many docks, this supports the back of the iPhone when it\'s docked so you can press the buttons with one hand and not have to hold it in place with the other. A nice touch! The dock part itself is kind of springy so that it absorbs some of the pushing when you set the iPhone into it. All in all it seems well made. The sound quality is quite good, especially considering it has only one speaker and is not stereo. It has an Eq button on the back that lets you adjust bass and treble separately to your liking. This is VERY nice for a clock that\'s going to wake you up because a tinny sounding speaker can be very harsh when it first kicks off. Toning down the treble and boosting the bass a bit can make for an easy-on-the-ears alarm, while the opposite setting can be nice for listening to music. The free iHome+Sleep app seems to be well designed although it does have a few bugs and takes a bit of fooling around to figure out all the features. Occasionally, it just quit without warning, but that usually seemed to happen after I was playing around in the settings a lot. Once you\'ve got it configured the way you want and are just using it like a clock, it is very stable. I also got the iHome+Radio app for $1.99 which adds the ability to wake up to an internet radio station, or just listen to a radio station whenever you want. There are thousands of stations to choose from and there were a good 20 stations in my local area. The UI is easy to use and it lists radio station by type, as well as by locale. As with any of the Clock/Radio apps I\'ve downloaded, it is really a good idea to spend some time playing with the features to make sure you understand how it works and don\'t get surprised with no alarm in the morning. Set up some very short alarm times and wait for it to go off to see how it works, how loud the volume is, etc.The only thing I find a little odd about how it works is that you need to have the dock in the \"On\" state or the alarm from the iPhone won\'t play through the speakers. However, the clock being lit up does NOT indicate that it\'s on. There\'s an iHome logo button on the top that must be lit up for the unit to truly be on. If you forget to press that button and light up the logo, you won\'t hear any alarm in the morning. But this is a minor quibble.Overall, this is a well made, attractive unit that does a LOT more than any of the others I\'ve tried. I highly recommend it!
- iHome App Enhanced Alarm Clock Speaker System for iPhone and iPod (Black) I like the \"Sleep Cards\" that you can use for different days of the week (work, days off, naps...you can customize your own).I still haven\'t gotten the hang of the social-networking features- I don\'t get updates when I go to bed or wake up, so I may have a setting wrong. It sounds pretty good for a small unit with just one speaker, and it\'s nice that you can have a hardware alarm, as well as software, so if you take your iPod away, the alarm setting is still on the device itself. You can dim the display on the unit itself, and it has a very large snooze button (and you can change the length of a snooze with the program on the iPod/iPhone).I\'m going to have to practice some more to figure out the settings I\'m having problems with, but so far, I\'m enjoying it in the month I\'ve had it.
- I purchased this clock it works great with the app if you have and extra 2 min. before bedtime to set it on the dock and configure all the settings. But if you forget to hit the Ihome button on the top (Brigt light stays on) then you won\'t hear your alarm. I found this out the hard way twice & was late for work. The Dock will allow you to play Iphone4 and charge it but it will keep displaying that it\'s not compatible with this device and it sometimes shuts it off. If you use this docking station and want to wake to your music remember to hit the Ihome button or you won\'t hear anything. If you can\'t sleep with light then this won\'t be a good choice. Last thing the part where your Ipod/Iphone sits on is not to sturdy so you have to be gentle with it and you have to make sure that it\'s connected, sometimes I hear the chirp that it\'s connected but it doesen\'t chare my Ipod
- I bought this after watching G4\'s gatchet prone. It looked really cool and I was in need for an alarm system. This I Home is fairly easy to use. It has some features that will help you with just about anything you could want. If you dont want to use alarm sounds you can choose to wake to any music from your iphone. The speakers have very good sound. The design is very good to put on nightstand. Must download IHome app for Iphone to get started(free download). My one criticism is that you do not have the option to listen to music without Iphone connected. There is no traditional radio player which normally you find on alarm clocks, but I don\'t listen to radio that much anyway.
- I purchased this alarm clock as a birthday present for my husband since he\'d been looking for an alarm clock that worked with his iPhone. I thoroughly regret this purchase.1. The clock is not at all \"plug & play\" especially since my husband uses an otterbox cover for his iPhone.2. My husband has tried to use an extender for the adapter where the phone plugs into the unit. Of course, iHome says the adapter is the cause of all problems.3. To properly seat the alarm clock into the clock base, my husband has to use a flashlight to make sure he\'s plugging into the base correctly. It takes at least 3-4 tries before the phone gets properly seated.4. In addition to the problems connecting the phone to the base, the last app update has proved to be quite buggy and the app sometimes work and sometimes it doesn\'t.5. My $5 battery operated alarm clock has proven to be more reliable than device which cost considerably more. When I realize my husband\'s alarm has not worked, I need to wake him up myself. My husband\'s routine to get the phone plugged into the base in hopes that the alarm will work the next morning is more effective in waking me up in the middle of the night than the alarm is at waking my husband up in the morning. I truly wish I\'d not spent the money on this cr\"app\"tastic device.
