Bose SoundLink Mini Bluetooth Speaker (Discontinued by Manufacturer)

  • I wanted a Bluetooth speaker for Christmas this past year and originally I asked for a Jambox Mini. While I liked the Jambox for the syle and color options when I received it I always thought that the sound was mediocre at best. It wasn\'t overly loud and the sound wasn\'t a full as it could have been. Now I understand that a mini speaker will not be as full and loud as it\'s larger counterpart but for me, it was way too low. Then I went to a BestBuy and listened to both the Bose SoundLink Mini and Logitech UE Boom. Here is what I found out...Overall Volume- UE Boom was loudest of all 3 of the wireless speakers I tested. That being said, when the volume was at 100%, it started to get a little distorted. Now I don\'t see any reason why you need the volume to be at 100%, but for the music I listen to... Alternative Metal, Rock and Hip Hop I found that the highs sounded off. When I listened to the Bose, it wasn\'t as loud as the UE Boom, but it was much clearer and crisper at higher volumes. Sound was fuller and better at higher volume settings while still being loud enough to play over most environments. In my personal room, on full volume this speaker is actually too loud while when I had the Jambox at full it barely filled the room. More on this on room projection below.Design/Build - From the looks, the Bose is the most \"professional and clean\" looking while the UE Boom and Jambox Mini have a little more \"flair\" to them. I do like the shape of the UE Boom (reminds me of a can of Monster Energy) and Jambox slightly more but you don\'t buy these for the shape. As for build, the aluminum trim and grey plastics looks sharp, clean and classy. Great addition to any desk, dresser, nightstand or stand anywhere in the house or office.Battery Life - I can\'t give a good estimate of the UE Boom since it was plugged in at the store but based on my time using it, the Bose has had stellar battery life. I used it for a 3 hour car drive playing a book and then 2 hours of a movie on my iPad at a hotel without any issues at all. I had more battery life for the next morning as well. I am sure this will last anywhere between 6-8 hours of use no issue. One of the best parts that I love about this speaker is that it comes with a docking station where you can plug the power adapter into and just place the speaker on to charge or plug the power cord directly into the speaker. Just a nice touch that Bose added that I find particularly useful.Sound Quality - I will be the first to admit that I am not a profession audiophile so take my opinion for what it is as your \"average joe\" listener. Sound on the Bose sounds almost perfect between the bass and treble. Songs and crisp and clear at any volume and movie sound performs the same way. Sadly, this speaker sounds better than the speakers on my TV (Samsung UE7100). At high volume I can\'t notice any distortion but like I stated before I am no profession when listening to sound. Some might be able to tell you better than myself but from an average listener standpoint this sounds fantastic at all sound levels.Room Projection - In your average size bedroom, you will have no problem at all filling the room with sound. Usually mine sits at about 75% full volume and its plenty loud enough. I also use the speaker when on the treadmill at home and at full volume it is clearly heard over the loud engine of the treadmill without having to really focus on the sound. When listening to the Bose in a much larger room like a living room or basement, on full volume it will easily fill the room. I wish I could say the same about the Jambox Mini but that isn\'t the case. In a large room, I found it hard to hear the speaker on full volume on the other side of the room when we were having a small party. No screaming or shouting, just casual conversations and it was hard to hear the music. Bose did not present a problem in the same type of situation.Overall - I really enjoy using this speaker for almost everything I can possibly think of a use for. Listening to books, music and watching movies on the go. All sound great and its all wrapped up in a great package. If you really are looking for a smaller Bluetooth speaker... don\'t look any further. Get a Bose SoundLink Mini and don\'t look back.
