• I enjoy the warmer sound of tubes, and this affordable unit does not disappoint when used as a pure amplifier. While there is a low 60-cycle hum, it is noticeable only between tracks. If you insist on absolute silence between tracks then you will either have to spend more or go with a hybrid or solid state amplifier. The Loxjie P20 is an excellent hybrid headphone amp at an incredible prices (although I recommend replacing the switching power supply brick and the stock tubes). I have not evaluated the XDUOO DAC, so I cannot comment on its quality
• You must replace the 12au7 tube that comes with it, it\'s a muddy gross Chinese tube that maybe would sound better once it burns in but it will never sound like a good tube. I currently am using a Mullard ECC82 but I do have a 6sn7 to 12au7 converter coming so I can try my RCA 5692 RedBase from the 50s.Amp sounds great with my 6xx. Actually works with IEMs also which I wasn\'t expecting. Haven\'t tried a planar on them yet since some planars do distort with certain tubes.
