- I have tough to drive headphones, including the ZMF Aeolus and Sennheiser HD 650, and I wanted something I could bring out into the backyard that could power them. On the other end of sensitivity, I have a few sets of top IEMs that I like to switch out (Fiio FH7 in particular opens up with some gain), so the Nano felt like a unit with the right level of versatility.In short, it drives all of these headphones (as well as others I have tried, such as Hifiman Sundara and Meze 99 Classics) extremely well. The Fiio FH7 in particular sounds incredible via the direct output, large soundstage and excellent detail. You will not have an issue driving typical headphones with ease using this little guy.Soundwise, the Ifi Nano feels a little warm, but still relatively neutral. I have never been sure if I am hearing differences between amp or DAC when auditioning units of this type. Regardless, I have compared this to the Darkvoice, the Fiio K5 Pro, the Feliks Echo, Dragonfly Black, Fiio BTR3K, and Schiit Magnius / Modius stack, as well as the onboard headphone stage of a Rega Brio. If forced to choose only one, I would keep the Ifi. Sonically it performs competitively with my favorite head amp (Feliks Echo), is far more versatile, as I do like to listen to IEMs — AND it\'s portable. Battery life is good, probably 6 hours or so.While not for every amp/DAC use case (for example, I would not use this with my hifi separates), there is no doubt in my mind that this thing delivers for the price. My main hifi DAC is a Rega Saturn-R and the Ifi plays hi-res files via Qobuz in a similarly smooth and musical manner. I find that, like the Rega, it tones down the hotness of streamed digital files (I typically listen to vinyl or CDs) with a touch of needed warmth.If you\'re looking for a head amp/DAC in the $200 range, don\'t hesitate, especially if you\'re a fan of IEMs.
