This seems to work well in the car, boosting the existing signal considerably. I prefer to leave the inside antenna hanging loose, where it can be moved. Tried using it out-of-car, with a 12v wallplug power supply, and it did not do much at all there. Seems the antenna strength is best when body-mounted.
Update: somehow we have 4G now, and even LTE signal where we camp. I don\'t know why or how, but we do, and it is amplified by this device. Original: This device makes camping a safer experience, we camp where there is limited signal to only one carrier. This device is used as a stationary signal amplifier, although it works in the car, I use it in camp. The outside antenna is placed 8 ft off the ground, the power is plugged into an automotive jump starter power source to provide at least 3.3A power, and the \"inside\" antenna is laid on a bench where the cell phone is placed next to it. I put the phone ringer on loud because you can\'t walk around with the phone as it must be near the second, \"inside\" antenna. I choose this one over the more expensive 4G version because I only use it for voice and text so it is more than adequate for that, and besides, there is no 4G where we camp. My purchase was made directly from Wilson Amplifiers. It exceeded my expectations, and that is a rare thing. In fact, they don\'t promise such a good response, but our signal went from no bars to four bars. Amazing.
