  • If you are looking to buy this item, be prepared to redefine the way you hear, well, everything. Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Well first, allow me to tell you a story and some things I have personally observed as being an avid audio listener. My previous headphones were a pair of $30 Sony earbuds. They were good and I received a full equalized sound. I did not complain, and I enjoyed these headphones thoroughly until one day I forgot I left them in my cargo pant\'s pocket and ran them through the washing machine :( Days later I decided: \"You know what? Since I love listening to music, I am going to splurge and spoil myself!\" I looked at Shure ($100 is my limit thus ultimately way out of my budget) and Klipsch (looked very reasonable!). I came across Bose and was impressed by its reviews, and not simply because many family members of mine swear by it :PMy first impressions: It was well sealed and came with a nice but flimsy leather case, along with a wonderful variety of silicone ear pieces so that you get a good fit. You receive small, medium, and large pairs of StayHear buds and regular buds. Due to the earphones shape, I did not feel confident with using the regular buds. Instead, I chose the StayHear buds and they fit quite well. Putting them in is awkward but will not come out easily, which is great during exercise. The black/white twist cord makes it easy to spot (and looks cool), but a few inches short from comfortable. Volume is good enough and you\'ll adapt fine; any higher and you\'re deafening yourself. These earbuds do not have a full seal in your ear and will reduce but not block all outside sounds. I get some outside noise with these in the gym or on a public transit bus, but that\'s a fraction of my day and I frankly don\'t care. Now if you are in a machine shop, go get the Quiet Comforts. Now we get to the listening part, and good lord almighty, what a difference! The Bose IE2 earbuds fed my ears with crisp, near flawless details of everything I instructed my player to execute. Every song I listened to was exactly like being there in the studio. When I used to listen to rock or indie, guitarists were just guitarists. Now I put these on and can hear the individual strumming of each guitarist and even the base player. Vocals are literally right in your face with amazing clarity. What about electronic? I was able to hear each complex audio overlay with such precision that each sound seemed improved from what I was used to. Rap? Impressive beyond belief. Here is a quick list some songs I listened to and their details I had never heard before (320+kbps MP3 / FLAC)Pink Floyd - Time: I can hear the woman\'s \"oooh-ahhh\" sound oscillation, perfectly.Sting - Moon Over Bourbon Street: The drummer\'s cymbals are crisp and whole.Drake - Little Bit: The distance echo is cleanly felt throughout my head.Deadmau5 - I Remember (Original): Bass and its compliments fulfill this song.Ave Maria - Charles-Fancois Gounod: Wow, simply wow..My music had changed, but did it really? I bet most people will put these on, listen to their music, say, \"No. No, that sounds like nothing of what I am used to!\" and then deem the headphones as flawed. The truth is, it\'s the other way around. The problem is that you are not adapted to this kind of change.Bose is giving you more that what you bargained for and you must retrain your ears to accommodate the reality of the music it was intentionally recorded and balanced in the studio by the artists. I was so used to friends\' car audio systems with bass, home theaters, and \"just your regular audio\" speakers, I ignored the details. With these headphones, I am overwhelmed and re-listening every song I have. There is not a song I do not like now, and for those I did like very much, and I am now saying to myself, \"Really? That\'s what it sounds like? That\'s Awesome!\" I was not prepared, nor will you. Buy it and break your ears into the unadulterated reality of sound.P.S. - If you have mp3\'s, strive for over 250kbps. To get the ultimate experience, listen to music with lossless encoding (OGG,FLAC) or CD\'s.
  • I really wanted to like these headphones. I really did. And as a matter of fact, I very much do--just not for me. I\'ve been shopping around lately looking for my perfect pair of in-ear buds, and these came highly reviewed on several sites and blogs, ranging from small one-man publications to large conglomerates such as CNET and Amazon. At this point I was fed up with the low-quality change of materials used in the  Klipsch IMAGE S4 In-Ear Enhanced Bass Noise-Isolating Headphones (Black) , and even though I greatly enjoyed the quality of sound featured in that pair, I couldn\'t deal with the constant breakage of them--so I switched to Bose, a company notorious for top-of-the-line products. And they certainly didn\'t disappoint; this is a product with some major strengths, but also some significant weaknesses.Packaging: the headphones come in an attractive, minimalist blue cardboard sleeve. Inside is a two-panel plastic holder that contains the headphones, a (rather bulky, given the purpose) leather carrying case, as well as two other sets of ear attachments and the standard instructional/legal documentation. With the price of this product, I expected a bit more in terms of packaging--having previously received the  Monster Turbine High-Performance In-Ear Speakers , it was definitely a letdown, particularly since they cost the same.Build Quality/Materials/Aesthetics: Undeniably top-notch. The headphones are sleek, attractive and well-designed, with a spiral black/white cord that pops in comparison to other pairs of buds, as well as a solid rubber coating and an angled headphone jack that feels incredibly durable. One of the most highly-touted features of these particular phones is the StayHear fit of the earbud tips: above the section that slots into the ear is a crescent-shaped piece of rubber that nestles comfortably into the curve of the ear, providing a lightweight and very secure fit. You will never have to worry about these falling out of your ears--they\'re specifically designed to be comfortable and secure for hours of listening. Another attractive feature is their weight: you will quickly forget they\'re even there, as they are extremely light and very comfortable.Sound: Unfortunately, this is where these particular buds are lacking, in my opinion. I primarily listen to trance and progressive house--genres notorious for layered complexity and aggressive bass. In the latter department, these are absolutely terrible: bass kicks are nothing more than dull thuds, easily buried under the rest of the sound. The mids are decent, although somewhat muddy, and the the trebles are very piercing, shrill and generally unpleasant to hear. I twiddled with the EQ settings on my music player and managed to find some decent balance by upping the bass and lowering the treble, but it barely did anything to help--rather than affecting the overall sound, it just eliminated some of the shrillness in bass-heavy sections, but they still shrieked when the bass dropped out; its inconsistency is jarring and unpleasant. All that said, for listening to music with a lower degree of sonic complexity, these headphones are probably great: they provide a flat, true, unaltered representation of the music, and this style might fit more minimal styles very well.Value: Again, not all they should be. I might note that these are somewhat falsely advertised: they are not true in-ear headphones. Rather, they sit on the outside of the ear, and do not feature any kind of canal-filling tip. These are essentially a stripped-down version of more traditional over-the-ear headphones. Additionally, while it is not mentioned in the product description online, they do not have any form of noise cancellation: it states this on the back of the box, but that\'s a bit disappointing to find out after having paid for and received the product. Even at high volumes, they will not block out any outside noise--if you walk near a crowded street, you\'ll hear every car passing loud and clear. Much of this also contributes to the sound quality: as weak as the bass is while sitting in a quiet room, it practically disappears upon entering any environment with a low to moderate amount of exterior noise.Pros:-Excellent build/material/construction quality: you won\'t find a pair of portable earbuds in this price range that feel this great-StayHear tips provide a secure fit and eliminate excess weight for heightened comfortCons:-Sound is very weak: bass is almost nonexistent, treble is piercing and shrill; there is no balance--treble will constantly override bass and leave the mids sounding muddy and unpleasant-Absolutely no isolation: the outside world is a very noisy place without this-Flat tone makes listening to complex music unappealingRecommended for: athletes or daily commuters who enjoy music with a relatively low degree of sonic complexity; these headphones are ideal for extended listening sessions, and the secure, comfortable fit will be welcomed by anyone participating in rigorous activity.Avoid if: you are an EDM listener or a bass lover in general; you are looking for headphones with an elevated, transformative listening experience.
