Sony RDPXF100IP 30-Pin iPhone/iPod Portable Speaker Dock (Black) (Discontinued by Manufacturer)
- I tried both the Logitech S315 and Bose Portable Sound dock and they are both good products. I returned the Bose Portable Sound dock since even though the sound was good, as a Bose fan and owner I was hoping to be blown away by it\'s superior sound (expecting the incredible Bose CD/Wave Radio sound). However it didn\'t feel like it had much of a bass punch like the lower end & lower cost Logitech unit. In addition the $400 price tag left me feeling like it was not worth the money. I still kept the Logitech S315 since it still sounded above average and a lower cost alternative. I still was looking for a better sounding alternative when I came across this Sony unit.I didn\'t really envision Sony as a great Audio / speaker company, so it was never my first choice when looking for a portable Ipod docking station. After reading all the great Amazon reviews and the price was much lower than the Bose Dock that I really wanted to work out for me, I decided to try out the Sony.I was pleasantly surprised that this unit does sound better than the Logitech and as good as the Bose. I believe it\'s the much lower cost solution to its Bose equivalent and that in itself is the very reason to get the Sony. If the price is 1/2 as much and sounds just as good, it seems like a no brainer.Another nice attribute is you can fit your Iphone with your case in the docking station with having to remove the case (same with the Logitech). I recall with the Bose system I had to remove my outer Iphone case in order to plug it in.The additional FM feature is nice if you want to listen to your favorite radio station, but most like you will hardly use it. FM reception is good.6/12/11 Update - Still liking this unit - still realizing that I never really use the FM feature since just streaming Pandora through my phone. FM reception is also just OK.I did notice the Sony bass is very deep and sometimes muffled, especially if you have on the ROCK sound preset. I have it on the POP preset and it sounds better. If you like bass in your music, this unit has it, but maybe too much of it.Overally this unit has great sound, portably and a more reasonable price compared to the higher end IPOD docking stations.
- Like many others, I spent some time at Best Buy comparing the docks and came to the conclusion that this was the best for value. Amazon had the better price so I got it here.It has great sound! Sometimes I turn the volume up and the bass sounds really good. I don\'t think it would take turning the volume up as loud as a standard boombox but it does just fine at what I would call a loud volume. Radio reception is among the best I\'ve had.The touch buttons are easy to use once you get used to them. They are very sensitive and only require a light touch to use. I also like that there are options to change the EQ levels.It\'s the perfect size, takes up little more than the corner of a table. Even at that size, it has great projection across the room, even at low volume.Only there\'s this problem. I got this dock about two months ago and roughly a month after, it started changing the function on it\'s own. I was listening to my iPod and it changed to radio. I thought I might have been sitting on the remote but no. The remote is sitting on the table. At first it only happened a few times but recently it\'s doing it more often. In the past hour it\'s changed function no less then 4 times, every 10-15 minutes or so. It\'s starting to get unbearable since I sometimes like to have it on all day during the weekends and through the evenings on weekdays. It\'s inconvenient to have to stop what I\'m doing to turn it back to the correct function. For now, I can recommend this product with a warning about the potential problem. If it gets any worse I will change my rating to \"not recommended.\" It\'s a shame though because it does have a great sound for the size/cost.UPDATE 02/11/12: The problem with switching modes has gotten much worse but I was able to pin point what\'s causing it. Seems to be a problem with the power cord. It only happens when it\'s plugged in. When it runs on just battery power, there\'s no problem. Shame on Sony for bad craftsmanship. Reducing my rating to 2 stars.
