Rolls HA243 4-Channel Studiophile Headphone Amplifier
- I\'ve had this amp and used it daily for about two years now.The good:It does what it claims to - it\'ll take either of two input signals (A or B) you provide (with multiple input formats available on each) and route them to the output jacks which are switched to the same channel (A or B).This unit provides plenty of power to drive most headphones, and does not add any noticeable distortion. Sounds great. The less-good:From day 1 the A/B toggle switches on the front of the device have been extremely finnicky about where they\'ll work. You can\'t have them all the way to one side or the other, or you\'ll get NO sound. If they\'re just a couple degrees off from the \"sweet spot\" you\'ll get the wrong channel or again NO sound output. Some of the switches have a larger \"sweet spot\" than others, but none are where the switch naturally wants to rest for either A or B. None. The larger (6.35mm) output jacks are all loose and wobbly, sometimes leading to crackling/disconnection if you move the cable at all.Having devices plugged into two output ports you\'ll find that adjusting the volume of one affects the volume of the other.Having an input in channel A and flipping an output port to channel B will still continue to play channel A\'s audio (what is the point of multiple inputs with selector toggles if you need to manually pause each source when you want to switch to the other?)Turning an output\'s volume knob to 0 does not stop the output signal. I can still hear the music coming through clear as day. When the unit powers on (you plug it in) you get a very intense POP in all output devices plugged in. This has been known in other amps to rupture headphone drivers and destroy the headphones. I haven\'t had that happen with this unit yet, but I always unplug everything before I turn it on as a precaution. Scary stuff.Overall:If you just want speakers, a subwoofer, and a tactile transducer (or some other multi-device setup) all playing the same audio at the same time, and you\'re willing to mess around with every little thing to try and get past the many, many flaws... It works. If you want to use the multiple inputs at the same time you\'re out of luck.If you want to just flip the A/B switch and have it work, you\'re out of luck.If you want to stop playing music on a device by turning its volume to 0 or by flipping to the alternate input channel, you\'re out of luck.If you want your headphones to be safe plugged into this device after a power outage, you should be careful with this.In the end, this is absolutely not worth $130. This seems like something you\'d get from China for $30, considering how many ways this thing fails to do what it should do. You should look elsewhere for your amplifier.
- Works well
- Works great for sending audio to multiple speaker systems/headphones and for switching inputs. 3.5 mm jack is in the way of switching the input a bit though.
