Craig Tower Speaker Docking System for iPod iPhone iPad, Digital FM Radio with Aux In, Black (CHT910)
- I bought this unit for my daughter-in-law and stepson for Christmas. They wanted something that would hook to their television and also would sound good with their iPod/iPad. They have a relatively small living room, so a huge unit was not really necessary. After doing some research, I chose this unit based on some favorable reviews, and that it sounded like it would fit their needs. They are not super picky about sound, but they expect decent sound. I on the other hand, am somewhat of an audiophile. My wife sits somewhere in the middle.........she is somewhat discriminating on her sound, and expects speakers to sound lush and not tinny. So here\'s the thing. We took the unit over to their house and I hooked it up for them. My daughter-in-law plugged her iPod into the port on top of the unit, and began to listen. She listens to current bands, such as One Republic. Right off the bat, I noticed that the sound on this Craig speaker was tinny. We turned the unit up, and I adjusted the bass to level 3. Immediately, we encountered vibration and creakiness (that\'s the best description I can think of) from the cones. You simply cannot turn the volume up very loud, without getting this negative vibration and sound. We then tried it with just the television sound. We were disappointed that it basically provided no better sound, than you would get from a large television speaker. Both my stepson and daughter-in-law were frustrated with the vibration, and the fact that you can\'t turn the unit up very loud without this occurring. This unit provides some bass, but it is limited. There is not a subwoofer built in, so this is certainly a factor. Nonetheless, I expected it to fill their small room with good sound without the obnoxious vibration that I have mentioned. My wife told me later, that she was very disappointed with the sound that the Craig produced. She and I were so embarrassed that we had given them a gift of this low caliber, that I immediately began shopping around for a better sounding speaker. I have found one, and I am replacing this Craig speaker with a superior unit.I do not want to come off like I am snobby when it comes to my expectations from a unit that is selling for basically a hundred dollars. But let\'s face it.........when you purchase a speaker that gets pretty decent reviews, you expect it to perform admirably. The Craig speaker may be just fine for some users who are not at all concerned with good sound (not to mention the ugly vibration). But for us, who run the gamut from not super picky, to very picky, this unit did not produce. I am not associated with any electronics company, and I am not someone who is writing this negative review, in order to promote another product. I do not like writing bad reviews, because it is not my nature to slam someone\'s product. But I had to put in my two cents worth, because my experience with this Craig speaker, was nowhere near what some of the positive reviews indicated. I would not recommend this unit. Thanks for taking the time to read my review.
- Bought two for kids xmas. Both of them ave I-Pad 2. One of the units worked great with one of the I-Pad, the another one I sent back, could not make this thing works, did not charged the I-Pad and we only could listen to the music using the cable... Cheked the I-Pads and the only difference between was that one of the kids upgrade the IOS system to the 6.1 version, this was the one that not worked at all. So I sent one unit back. If you are buyng one, be sure that it will work with your IOS version (perhaps I am wrong, would like to have a comment from the seller). In another words this is a great product, the kids love it and have a very good price. The sound is good (not audiophile quality, but you are listening to MP3). The constrction quality is good too and very easy to use and setup.
- I had been looking for a speaker that would play my iPod and plug into my TV for an extra speaker, and found it with this product. It suits my needs perfectly. It tucks nicely beside the TV. And I was able to program it into my Harmony remote, which eliminated another remote. The sound quality isn\'t that of a high-end sound system, but a whole lot better than my old shelf stereo system. The only problem I\'ve been having is my iPod sometimes skips. I\'m not sure if it\'s this docking system or my (older model) iPod. For the price, this was really worth it. I\'m even thinking of getting one to replace my computer speakers.
- For simplistic floor units, these actually sound surprisingly nice. There is assembly required in that you must connect the base to the unit via a single threaded screw, very easy to put on. You can play via Bluetooth or direct connect and there is an adapter used for the IPad. There is also FM radio, which has 20 programmable (please see manual on how to set) settings, but no AM, which I am not sure means much to anyone any longer. You have volume control along with bass control and you can find a good setting for any time of music. I tried different options for pretty much every genre and was able to use the control to create a decent sound. For those that enjoy a deeper bass, these are not bad at all and can push enough for you to enjoy. The remote control works very well at decent distances, but one word of caution. The remote is pretty small and can be easily lost, so careful where you place it.
- Seriously Craig??? We ordered this for our college aged daughter whose older ICraig tower finally bit the dust after many years. The older tower was awersome! She would use it with her iphone, ipod, etc....and that tower would just crank out concert quality music. When the old tower finally said its last goodbyes of course we had to replace it with another Craig...uh wrong decision. How a superior product can go from what she HAD to THIS is puzzling. Right out of the box we were suspicious. It was so lightweight...uh oh. Is there even a speaker in there? THe sound is horrible. It is static like, the music comes out unclear and warbly, theonly time the music is clear is when the volume is down so low you cant hear the horrible moaning and groaning it emits. How a company can allow its products to go from what we had to this is a shame. Shame on you Craig! You had an awesome product before and you changed it to this piece of junk>? whose bright idea was that...someody named GREED . thats who. We are planning to return this \"thing\"...so sad....Will NEVER buy Craig again.....Do yourself a favor ....do not buy. and if you do.well, I told you so. lol
- I may or may not change my rating. There is something loose inside the tower, but it still works okay. If over the next day or two I will see if the rattle will be an issue. This tower is only for iphone 4 and earlier for docking. That is fine with me, as I really bought this to use at work for a radio, as we are loosing access to listen over the internet. Shipping time was as promised, and the box looks fine, so either it will do or I will return in mid next week
