Sony WF-XB700 EXTRA BASS True Wireless Earbuds Headset/Headphones with Mic for Phone Call Bluetooth Technology, Blue

  • I\'ve been a Sony fan for, well, let\'s see, pretty much as long as I can remember actually. I work in radio and since my very first days on-air, I\'ve worn Sony headphones (the MDR-7506 Professional\'s are the recording industry standard BTW). To be clear, Sony does make some lesser quality products which have a price tag that goes along with it, so keep that in mind...but if you buy a pair of earbuds by them that aren\'t cheap, odd\'s are they are going to be excellent. The WF-XB700 earbuds are fantastic. It\'s hard to know where to begin. Since I\'m in broadcasting, one of the downsides is that you become absolutely crystal clearly aware of what decent, good and excellent audio quality is and you learn it quite fast actually. The downside is you become uncomfortably aware of bad audio, and that includes earbuds and headphones. The upside is when you find a great pair of either, you know you\'ve stumbled upon something great. These earbuds are truly special. No they aren\'t the smallest buds you\'re going to find available. But keep in mind, the smaller they are, the less quality that audio typically tends to be...not always mind you, but more often than not. They are smaller than my Bose SoundSport Free\'s (which also sound fantastic) and they are more comfortable to wear long-term as well. The case they come with is about the same size (roughly) as my Galaxy Buds case, but slopes down in the front a bit more. They are plastic, but they don\'t \"feel\" cheap if that means anything. The battery life on these are quite impressive, too. While the case does not support wireless charging, it does offer impressive quick charging...as in ten minutes plugged in will give you around 60 minutes of listening time, which is pretty great actually and significantly better than both my Bose and the Galaxy Buds.I was a little surprised they did not come with a companion app to download for further music customizing. It\'s nice to further tweak the settings to get the absolute most out of your music...however, I tend to use my earbuds connected to either my Galaxy Watch 3 or my regular bluetooth mp3 player, neither of which can adjust the music or fine-tune the settings to give more bass, less or extra highs and soforth...so for my particular tastes, not having that app hasn\'t really messed with my enjoyment whatsoever. They come with several pairs of silicone ear-tips to swap out for a better fit in your ear, so it is worth the time to invest in finding the pair that fits best for you. As I mentioned before, wearing these is really great because they don\'t contribute to ear fatigue like so many other earbuds can do (including my Bose, which may sound fantastic, but wearing them for more than an hour tends to, well, you tend to REALLY know you\'re wearing them. The Sony\'s are the opposite...but keep in mind everyone\'s ears are different and your experience may vary. The audio quality is just stellar. Great highs, mid\'s AND lows. They say Extra Bass but I didn\'t think they had as much as I was expecting. I have a pair of Extra Bass wireless Sony headphones and those things will thump your brain even with the extra bass turned OFF...so I expected these to be somewhere in the same neighborhood and I am happy to say they weren\'t. Please do not take this as I think the bass is lacking...because I don\'t. The bass is exceptional and on par with my SoundSport Free earbuds...I just don\'t think they are as powerful as I expected--which is a GOOD THING. Too much artificial bass is super annoying to me. With these you get just about the perfect amount to enjoy the music to it\'s fullest. The mid\'s and highs are clear enough that you can hear speaking and singing quite clearly, too. All in all, for the money, these are about the best sounding earbuds I have ever tried and I ALMOST bought the more expensive noise cancelling WF-SP800N (which are about $70 more)...I\'m happy I didn\'t spend the extra $$ because while the WF-XB700 EXTRA BASS doesn\'t have noise cancelling, it does have noise isolation which works really well. The latest trend with earbuds is to have touch-sensitive control...well this is one area Sony chose not to follow everyone else. Instead they went with physical buttons on both earbuds. They are tiny and easy to access and what I like about them over the usual touch sensitive buttons are you are less likely to accidentally skip a track, or pause a song just by reaching up to pull one out or adjust it during a particularly vigorous workout. I have had this with many, MANY other earbuds and honestly, I really dislike the feature to be honest. Maybe one day someone will figure out the best all-around way to make the feature fool proof or at least easier to use without accidentally doing something you did not intend to do, but until then, having actual buttons is my personal preference so it doesn\'t bug me in the slightest...but if you personally prefer the touch sensitive kind, it is something to consider.I think the only other thing I wish to point out is a very small gripe...the charging cord is really short. Like it\'s 8\" long and that\'s it. I would have preferred one that was roughly 2-3 feet in length if I\'m being honest, but 8 inches?? Who thought that was a good idea? Kudos for making them USB-C however. The transition from Micro USB to the newer USB-C shouldn\'t have taken this long and it\'s disappointing when I see something sold today that still employs the older tech, but I suppose in the grand scheme of things, this is a very minor thing to complain about...but for some it\'s absolutely valid. All in all, another all-around Stellar audio product from one of my all-time favorite audio companies. If I could make any changes, it\'d be the inclusion of a downloadable app for further audio tweaking, wireless charging and a longer charging cord. Honestly, that is all I would change about them to be totally honest. I know many have other reasons for liking or disliking them, but that in no way takes away from the absolutely fantastic audio these earbuds will provide you with. I would NOT hesitate to recommend them AND buy another pair.
  • Months ago I had wanted to upgrade from my Sony bluetooth wired headphones for my workouts to the new (Not so new) trend of wireless earbuds so at the time I was looking for something relatively cheap just to see if I would like having them during my runs/workouts and I stumbled upon the Haylou wireless earbuds for about 22 dollars at the time. Knowing these were cheap earbuds my expectations were extremely low. I was pleasantly surprised how good they sounded and how comfortable they were in my ears and they never fell out during my workouts.. The biggest problem I had was the CONSTANT disconnect from each ear bud and latency, when it worked it worked great but I had more issues than not.Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago and my preferred brand for tech (Sony) was releasing some workout earbuds, now these were not the first by them but previous models were reviewed and were not so favorable so I decided to hold off. For the price of $129 I was a bit hesitant but knowing Sony is a \"Premium\" brand I decided to take the chance and the previous reviews for their flagship earbuds WF-1000XM3 which are apparently in a league of their own I felt Sony has the perfect engineering formula for their earbuds now. (Mind you Sony is one of the leading authorities in sound engineering in the world.)The earbuds arrive with standard packaging, the earbuds, the charging case and USB C cable and some instructions and various sizes in ear tips to replace with in case the default ear tips did not fit for you. Pairing the earbuds to my Sony XPERIA XZ Premium smartphone was a breeze, as soon as you take it out of the case it will immediately try to connect. As soon as I paired it I was placing them into my ears and it was as comfortable as most earbuds despite their size. Now that is probably one of the things you will notice it is relatively larger in person than in the pictures, at least to me, but by no means did they feel uncomfortable in the hours that I had them in my ears whether I was working out/running or just using it for my commute to work. Sound quality was very good especially with the extra bass, even turning up the volume the sound doesn\'t become over saturated with bass or mids. Now unfortunately you cannot utilize the Sony app for the headphones to make adjustment to the mids/lows/treble/bass.. all that jazz that you would normally do in their higher end headphones/earbuds but even at default it sounded very good (A little tweaking might have made it sound a bit crisper). Now these DO NOT have noise canceling so if that is what you are looking for these are not it. Be prepared to hear most of your loud surrounding while wearing these but like most earbuds by design they have passive noise canceling so they will drown out some low noises but you will hear everything. I had no issues with the earbuds disconnecting or latency issues so that was a huge relief to have a consistent good audio experience. Testing the battery endurance of these earbuds happened twice. The first time I had the earbuds at MAXIMUM volume and let it play out while I slept. From my initial test they lasted the entire 9 hours at MAX volume, letting the battery go out recharged for 10 minutes and it gave me about a little over an hour. Fully charged and test it for a second time and it lasted 9 hours and 15 minutes. Personally I\'m not going to have earbuds in my ears for more than 3 hours straight so if you are concerned with battery life that really won\'t be an issue for most people. The case will give you an additional 9 hours so recharging the case and headphones that are completely depleted took me probably an hour and 15 minutes or so. There is a light indicator on both earbuds showing you they are being charged and one in the case.So overall I really like these for my workouts and just going about my daily routine. Comfortable to wear, sounds very good (could use a little tweaking), but lack of noise canceling does hurt it a bit especially for the price.COMFORT: 8 out of 10 (Big earbuds came in a big case but pleasantly comfortable for long term use)SOUND QUALITY: 7.5 out of 10 (Unable to tweak audio and no noise canceling) (I\'ll give it an 8.5 in a perfectly quiet area)BATTERY LIFE: 9 out of 10PRICE: 7 out of 10 (A little high for what you get or what you are not getting)
  • Great for the gym, airplanes, and the office.Fit: good, don\'t fatigue my earholes, they stay in even when sweating and moving about the gym. They came with 3 options for seals...if you pick the right ones, the bass is dope. They do stick out of your head a good ways though so you can\'t really lay down on your side with them in the ear.Sound: The bass is solid. I got rid of my top of the line sonys because of the weak bass but the reviews on the XB model was good so I went for those and i\'m not disappointed. Highs are decent, mids are present, and bass is deep and strong enough to make rock and hip hop come alive.Noise Cancellation: Passive, but good enough that you can ride a lawnmower comfortably. Not good enough to sit next to a sad baby on a flight...but 3-4 rows away you\'ll be fine.Battery: I\'ve gone through a couple flights and a layover with these without needing to recharge so i don\'t know how long they would go, but long enough. The case charges them quickly too. I wear them almost every day to the gym for an hour but only charge the case maybe once or twice a week.Calls: Decent, mic is good, but the mic picks up ambient noise and pumps it into the speakers at a low volume for some reason...kind of weird sounding...I would not recommend these if you\'re going to make calls regularly.
