Sony RDPM7IPN Lightning iPhone/iPod Portable Speaker Dock (Black)

  • Decent looking speaker dock. I just recently got this for my wife. It charges fine with pop-up errors, running a jailbroken iOS 6 currently. She uses this to charge her phone nightly and does the job. This also doesn\'t interfere with the case. The sound is clear and there is no distortion even turned all the way up. Complaints:- Doesn\'t get as loud as expected for a device of this size. The little cube speaker dock she has for her old 3GS is as loud/louder yet much smaller (and was far less expensive). I would have reused or purchased a second one but the design would have put a lot of stress on the connector with a 30-8 pin adapter, so I decided that would be a bad move.- The unit is a lot thicker than pictures indicate. Yet it still has that small speaker sound; I expected a bit more from that size of enclosure.Overall it\'s still a good purchase but not worthy of 5-stars. To be a 5-star product it would need to do one of the following three things:- Reduce the price to $50 or less- Keep the same sound output/quality, but make the unit much thinner- Same unit size, but with more audio output and a larger range of sound.Until one of those three above are met this product isn\'t worthy of another star.
  • This is the perfect accessory for the iPod with the lightning jack. It is highly portable and can run on batteries (6 AA). It has good volume, adequate for an average sized room, but a bit underpowered for a large room. It is not as loud as the very similar Bose speaker dock, however the Bose must be plugged in. It will NOT go to the beach with you.The remote is a very nice feature, but If that is a key feature for what you need, look to other products. I believe the \"Next track\" and \"Previous Track\" do not work with precision. This is a more serious flaw with the larger Bose system, since you may wish to be several feet away from the speakers with the Bose range. In a presentation, I manually queued the tracks for the speaker by using the screen while the iPod was plugged into the Dock. It worked like a charm. Recommended.
  • Sony has a winner with this good looking, good sounding dock.Positives:I bought this to have a dock that I could not only keep by my bed, but that would also travel well, and it delivers. The unit\'s form factor is well suited to both uses, being slim enough to keep on my nightstand and having a built in handle along with the option for battery power. The unit is relatively compact, but note that the product photo implies it\'s only about an inch or so thick. Actually, the back of the unit has a semicylindrical projection that\'s about 2.5 inches deep, and which extends from the base of the unit to about two-thirds of its height. It still has a pretty small footprint, and fits easily on my nightstand. I believe this projection is a tuned enclosure for the speakers, because below each speaker driver I can see what looks like a port that extends all the way into this enclosure. The Lightning connector is on a swivel, and the dock\'s leaned-back design naturally supports an attached iPhone, so undue stress on both the connector and phone is minimized. Thus far, I have only operated the dock on AC power. The sound is quite good for a small unit, though it can seem low on maximum volume depending on placement. I was able to work around this by setting my iPhone\'s equalizer to the \"Late Night\" setting, which apparently boosts pretty much the entire audio band. Overall, the sound is rich and clear, again for a unit of this size. One of my favorite features is the included remote control, which is excellent. It levels the footing with Bluetooth docks, allowing you to control your attached device without having to return to it every time. I originally found that it didn\'t work with the 7th generation iPod Nano, but trying it again proved me wrong. The remote does, indeed, fully control the 7th gen Nano in the same way it controls my iPhone 5. Without obstruction in the way, I\'ve had no trouble controlling the dock from about 20 feet away.Negatives:My quibbles are minor. When playing energetic, bass-heavy music like trance at full volume, the sound can be a bit distorted. Also, given the very small form factor for the remote, it would have been helpful for Sony to include some way to attach it to the main unit for safe storage.Bottom Line:At $68, this is a good deal (note that the price seems to fluctuate a lot). The unit does what it should and does it well. The key, however, is to keep in mind that a dock of this size and price will have natural limitations. It will not fill a large room with sound. It will not perform as well as any of the large, pricey premium docks from companies like B&W, NAD, Marantz, etc (which can be really excellent, if you have the space and budget for one). But as a tidy, good sounding, portable dock solution for personal listening, the Sony dock works quite nicely. Recommended.
  • I ordered it under the impression that I was ordering a new item. Mfr. box had clearly been opened, some packaging material was missing, there were no user instructions, and there was a Kohl\'s price sticker on the box. Had no complaints as to performance and product showed no wear or damage. As I needed to open it prior to sending it as a gift, I didn\'t make an issue of the packaging, but still...
  • Ok...I seriously love this thing. First of all, when you pop your phone on it for the first time it will direct you to download a free app. Do it. It turns this speaker dock and your phone into a really cool clock radio. You can dim the brightness of the app (independent from the rest of your apps), set alarms and use sleep timers for music or sleep apps while you drift off. The app displays the time all night on a very sleek and uncluttered screen (again, you can make it as bright or as dim as you\'d like) and the sleep timers and alarms work flawlessly as long as you keep the app engaged over night. I have two cases for my phone. One is a hard plastic that snaps on and doesn\'t have a lot of stuff on the bottom of the phone that would hinder the ability to dock. My other one is a more \"jelly\" case and it had more structure on the bottom and I couldn\'t dock with it on. A quick snip on the bottom of the phone with some scissors (you can\'t even tell) and it docks perfectly. Just keep in mind that you\'ll want either a flexible or uncluttered cover for your phone if you want to keep the cover on. More protective covers may not work.I highly recommend this if you have the iPhone 5. The sound is great, the footprint uses more vertical than horizontal space and it takes batteries so you can move it around if you want to.
