LETSHUOER S12 in Ear Monitor, 14.8mm Planar Magnetic Driver HiFi IEM in Ear Earphones (Nebula Grey, 4.4mm)
- Incredible speed and detail. These quickly became my favorite pair of headphones, superseding my HE6SE ($600 open back!). I have small ears so these are not very comfortable, even with the tiniest supplied foam tips, but it\'s worth it.
- Really Good before the Promethus Mod, Excellent after the mod...
- My first good/decent iem was the Moondrop Chu. I will use them as a basis for my review of the s12.My first impression is that the sound is cleaner and more detailed on the s12 (it is also loud, and easily driven by a pc). But, in terms of audio enjoyment, it was only slightly better. The audio isn\'t substantially better as to justify the price. As someone who is familiar with the consideration of price/performance when it comes to pc components, this is like purchasing a GPU that is 15% faster, has a better stock fan/cooler, and can overclock better, but comes in at 5 times the price. Sure you are buying a better product, but is it really worth the upgrade? If I compare the audio quality as the only basis to reflect on, the answer is no. If I factor in the build quality, the answer is still no, but the difference comes more in at 25% (the stock cable is a lot better on the s12).However, my opinion is coming from someone that doesn\'t really care about audio quality or accuracy. I only care about how a song makes me feel and whether I am enjoying it or not. I cannot compare these to audiophile headphones, since I do not have a pair. However, when considering the hype read on the internet and how similar it is across the board (from iems to headphones to earbuds), I\'m going to guess that they would be unimpressive too. I think this is a testament to the quality of audio nowadays and that there exists a point where audio is simply good enough. But this review is in relation to audio quality. When compared to other aspects, such as the feel the audio has on the ears, I still find over-ear headphones superior to iems. Sure the audio quality of the s12s and the Chus are better than my Skullcandy Hesh 2s, but I simply enjoy the presence that headphones give. I would rank the presence as being quite important as it improves the overall immersion of both gaming and music which translated into a more enjoyable experience.Edit: After a month or so of exclusive use, they still work well. These things can get super loud, especially when driven directly on a pc. So loud in fact, that I\'ve accidentally exposed my ears to dangerous levels of sound more than once. They are easily driven by android and with the iphone. Audio quality is comparable between the two.My only gripe with the build quality is the cable. While it is a fantastic cable, it\'s less than perfect as the over-ear loop occasionally slides over my ear. It\'s not a big issue, and barely even a minor issue. However, I would prefer if the cable connectors (metal) had a shorter barrel to where they attach to the iems. This metal length makes the loop a bit too tall.
- I love these IEMs. I would start to buy them and then talk myself out of getting them. There were so many reviewers, both on Amazon and Youtube that would talk about how cold sounding or too clinical or even saying they didn\'t sound fun. I strongly disagree. I find it extremely fun to hear music I love with so much resolution and clarity unlike I\'ve ever heard. I\'ve never owned planar IEMs or headphones and I\'m so glad I went ahead and took the chance. I\'m running these balanced and it takes the music to another level. For the last two or three years, I\'ve been buying just about every pair of Chi Fi IEMs that have come out. Some I\'ve been very pleased with and others will barely get used. Then I started hearing about these planar sets that came out. I watched all of the videos and read all of the reviews and contemplated if I should take the gamble. Wow, I\'m I glad I did. I\'ve never heard such resolution. You\'re able to hear everything that\'s been recorded. The soundstage is good, more wide than in front of you. The separation is not as good as I would prefer, but still good. I\'m still having fun hearing something that makes your brain convince you that the music is coming from some inanimate object that\'s nearby. The bass is good and punchy. The midrange is fantastic. The vocals are incredible. These shine brightest with acoustic music. Listening to the silky voices of performers such as Sara Bareilles or Jennifer Warnes takes you to a level above your regular listening experience. Other genres of music sound better than with most IEMs. Classical and jazz sound very good as well. The same goes for rock. I listen to every genre of music and haven\'t heard anything that makes me disappointed. As a typical audiophile, my audio equipment collection will never be finished. So many people don\'t understand that, but with new things constantly coming out, how could someone who loves great-sounding music not want to better their system? This review has been kind of rambling. I apologize for that. I\'m just so happy and impressed with these. Every time I listen to music I will notice that I have a huge smile on my face. If you\'re on the fence as I was, just try them.
