  • I am a sound engineer and I really like these in-ear monitors. The only problem is, I don’t know where to buy a replacement cable when the one in the kit becomes unusable
  • Early review so I will revisit later. I like these ear buds better than Bose QC 30. To my ear, these delivered relatively flat response from ~55 hz - ~9,000 hz. They would still deliver a pure tone all the way down to 17 hz (!) and up to ~13,000 hz, though it is possible others could hear beyond those ranges. The bass is not as heavy as the Bose earbuds I tested these against though they could deliver a consistent tone at lower freq. The Bose earbuds I compared did have a staticky sound when given pure tones in the lower frequencies, probably the result of the amplification causing distortion. The PSB buds were a great improvement over an old pair of Etymotic MC5 buds, which sound tinny by comparison. To wear the PSB buds takes a bit of getting used to, as the wire comes up from behind and over the ear before the bud tip is inserted in the ear canal. Because of this they take a bit longer than regular buds to put in & take out. Getting a snug fit may require trying different tip sizes & types. The PSBs come with both foam & rubber tips, each in 3 sizes. I recommend trying each for fit then purchasing replacement tips. These sound very good but aren’t cheap. If they turn out to be fragile it’ll be a bit of spendy disappointment. For now though, these seem to provide reasonable noise isolation without microphonic noises & good response at high & low frequencies without overemphasizing any freq. range.---UPDATE---Important Note: If you use the foam tip see instructions on how to insert them https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYpdm2qm6Pc Instructions included with product are poor. I prefer the foam tips as they provide good noise isolation and don\'t tend fall out when moving about; but only if they are sized and inserted correctly. (Hint: Start with the large size.)Online tools make it easier to compare some headphone benchmarks. For testing frequency response try this website. http://www.szynalski.com/tone-generator/For testing a range of headphone metrics try this website. http://www.audiocheck.net/soundtests_headphones.php Using the dynamic range test found at that website, my test indicated the PSB had superior dynamic range (or maybe responsivity?) with signals audible down to ~72db below full scale level. This was a step better than any other headphones I own, including 2 Bose, Etymotic MC5, & AKG K240.
  • I got these earphones after having tried four different Chi-fi earphones and decided armature meant excessive sibilance and harsh treble. I\'m well familiar with the PSB brand as a manufacturer of speakers and the sound of these earphones very much reflects PSB\'s know-how in the Hi-Fi field. To my ears, it\'s a nicely balanced/judged sound, not lacking in highs, mids, or lows. Nothing in excess either.Having said that, these earphones also show PSB\'s lack of experience and history in designing in-ear monitors. These are the first pair of in-ear monitors that I\'ve had fit issues with. They don\'t seem to fully fit into my ears even though I don\'t have small ears. If I try to push them further in, they become uncomfortable. I thought the rubber tips might have been the culprit so, I tried to experiment with silicone tips from other makers but I noticed PSB\'s have a different design/shape. So, when I managed to fit a different pair on, it change the sound and the L/R balance of the sound (I\'m not making this up - I tried multiple times and the same result)Last but not least, there\'s no memory wire or plastic hooks to secure the cables around the ears. So, in my case, whenever I turn my head from side to side, I can feel the cables swinging left and right behind my ears - not a whole lot but enough to create the sensation they will come undone any second. But the sound... :)
  • I love this earbud. The best I have ever heard. I\'ve only compared it to a few but some observations:1) Excellent clarity.2) Excellent fit with the foam. It took awhile to figure out how to use it, since it wraps around the year but once you figure it out, perfect fit.3) Excellent bass. Deep and tight without any boominess.I\'ve compared it to some other earbuds and headphones I have. This is better then the RBH EP3, which is excellent in its own way. The EP3 has even deeper and louder bass but I like the PSB M4U 4 better. Just sounds more natural.I also have the 1More Triple driver and the M4U is wayyyyy better than that one. The RBH EP3 is also better than the 1More Triple driver. Better than the apple earbuds that come with the phone too, obviously.I think the PSB M4U 4 is just as good as the KEF M500 headphones. Both are smooth, natural, deep, balanced and clear.Excellent buy, especially at $115 for the white ones.
  • I let these \"burn in\" for 3 days by playing continuously at medium volume before listening. Unfortunately I find that I need to apply +6DB bass and midbass and -6DB at 4K and above, to have these sound anything like normal frequency balance. If I don\'t do the EQ there is no bass or midbass at all. Zero. I don\'t know why.WITH THE EQ these sound very , very good. Almost as good as my PSB M4U full size headphones.Fit is impossible for my ears though. I have small ear canals and it is quite impossible to get these inserted comfortably and reliably, and I even tried some accessory \"ear-hooks\", but useless. These simply will not stay in place on my ears. So these are now worthless to me.
  • Second only to my planar magnetics, these PSBs have become my favorites, especially for travel and working around the house. I compared them with much more expensive in-ears and PSB\'s cost-to-quality ratio was a no-brainer. I\'ve been so impressed with them I bought a backup pair. They look good, are very comfortable, sound great, and when I need better sound isolation I wear them under shooter\'s muffs for utter silence - except, of course, for the excellent music repro from these beauties. They are shipped with an additional cable with an in-line mic. The mic however, does not work with Android - that\'s my only complaint!
