Sennheiser HD500 Open Fusion Full-Size Headphones (Black) (Discontinued by Manufacturer)
- The HD500s are incredibly comfortable, with a great depth of sound to them. I can see them being really great headphones, but only if you really know what you\'re getting.Firstly, the open backs really rule out alot of situations for me, as everyone else can hear exactly what you\'re listening to, which isn\'t ideal at all.Secondly, these are pretty crap if you\'re using them for anything else other than to listen to music that\'s amped in some way. Like mentioned in the description, using these for stereos etc is pointless, as the sound seems \'distant\' in your ear.If you happen to be a huge fan of ambient music however, such as Zero 7, lemon jelly and so on, then these headphones are superb with their bass response, however, otherwise, I\'d stick to another pair.
- I don\'t think you can find a set of headphones with a wider frequency range; making them the ultimate audiophile\'s tool. I use them for listening to healing music (Tibetan Singing Bowls, binaural beat brain entrainment, and meditational music). I bought two of these some time ago; and the singular complaint is that the material covering the ear pads eventually breaks down and becomes sticky. I\'d love to see them use a good quality leather in place of the plastic junk; but it is a minor consideration when you hear the quality of sound reproduction these things are capable of. Despite the problem with the cover material, I would buy another set or two of these in a heartbeat.
- It\'s a risk buying headphones over the internet because you can\'t hear the sound or feel the comfort. I had a less than satisfying experence with a set of Aiwa headphones. After reading of few customer reviews I took a chance on the Sennheiser Hd500. These are easily the best mid priced headphones I\'ve tried. For the average listener who likes to crank it up now and then this is what you want. I can\'t possibly imagine what you get by spending more money. The sound is rich and clear while being very light and comfortable. These make the \"old Standard\" Koss pro AA pale in comparison.
- I had these headphones for 3 yaers. Very comfortable. Good bass response. I listen to everyhing from Classical to Hip Hop. I replaced the cord a few months back. Now I am faced with a broken driver. I was on Sennheiser\'s site and could not find a replacement piece. Even though the driver pops right now. This is somewhat annoying. If you are not technical enough to do these sort of replacements then don\'t worry about this. But if you are capable of fixing it yourself look for a set that has total replacements. Like the HD580 or HD600.pearcec DOT com
- While not being an audiophile, I was looking for a pair of decent sounding headphones to wear at work for extended periods of time. I had a pair of Koss TD/80\'s that sounded acceptable, but were uncomfortable to wear for over 10 minutes. These looked quite comfortable, and were about what I was looking to spend. At first listen they seemed quite dull, favoring the mid to low sections and not at all the bright, responsive headphones that I was looking for. Then I realized that I was driving them with my laptops internal card. At home, it was a different story entirely. The highs suddenly came out, and they responded like a decent pair of headphones. I would definitely recommend using these only with a properly driven output device, or a headphone amp. Also, these seemed to bring out the worst in my MP3 files. All in all, only medium performance on typical equipment. Better equipment brings out better sound. I hear that the HD495\'s are better sounding on typical equipment for the same price.
- These phones are extremely comfortable, I love Sennheisers new \"bionetic\" design. However, these headphones are not what I would excpect for [the price]. The only genre I was comfortable listening to on them was Rock, and beyond that I felt the sounds was muddled and not very open. They have a somewhat strange \"semi-open aire\" design which is not standard. If you can afford them the Sennheiser HD-600\'s...are outstanding; however, for something nearer this price range, and usability I highly recomend the Grado SR-60\'s...They are less expensive, and sound much better.
- Great sound quality
- I had a poor experience with Sennheiser as a company. I received a pair of HD 265\'s. These are not inexpensive headphones and wanted closed not open headphones. I unpacked the product and put them to my ears and they broke in half. I had a piece of headphone in each hand. I called the seller and they said send them bak to the manufacturer. Nothing like like making the customer responsible for a problem. I sent them back to Sennheiser and asked if I could upgrade to a better headphone such as the 600\'s and that I would be happy to pay. I have to give Sennheiser credit. They did call and offer to uprgrade for $250 plus the HD 265. I explained that I could get a pair of 600\'s on Amazon for less than that and keep the 265\'s. That did not seem to matter to them. I guess they could not follow the logic of pay more and get less.My suggestion is to stay away from Sennheiser alltogether and take a look at Ultrasone, GRADO, or Pioneer.Unlike the Ultrasone\'s these headphones the 600\'s have an in your head sound as opposed to the much more natural sounding and accurate Ultrasone\'s. These headphones are also very tight and uncomfortable and connot be worn for long. Although I own a pair of Sennheiser noise cancelling headphones which I like, I prefer to give business to a company with more character. I also think there are headphones with a much superior build quality and superior sound such as the Ultrasone and GRADO headphones. When it comes to reviews most people purchase headphones and do not compare and write a review about the only headpohone they have really listened to. The initial impression of most quality headphones is mindblowing. That was my initial mistake. Now I have experiences GRADO\'s Ultrasone\'s and STAX\'s. Save your money and don\'t buy a name, buy a headphone.
